PIEKKOLA Linda S. Piekkola, 84, of Calumet died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, in Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids. She was born April 12, 1916, to Charles and Alina (Nikkari) Tuorila in Blowers Township in Ottertail County, Minn., where she grew up and attended schools. She was married to Walter R. Piekkola Dec. 1, 1937, at Sebeka, Minn., and they lived at New York Mills until moving to Marble in the spring of 1941. Her husband, Walter, died in 1972. She moved to Calumet in 1996. Linda was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Marble where she was active with the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Marble Senior Citizens and Marble Civic Club. Linda enjoyed her grandchildren and crocheting. In addition to her parents and husband, she also was preceded in death by a daughter, Delores Chenevert Coulombe; grandsons Philip Chenevert and Gary Karcz; sisters Lillian Tuorila and Esther Aho; and brothers Albert, Ernest, Ben and Eino Tuorila. Survivors include daughters Carolyn (Delbert) Bernu of New York Mills, Nancy Satterfield of Nashville, Tenn., Venita (Donald) Karcz and Janice Putnam, both of Aniwa, Wis.; sons Gerald (Judy) Piekkola of Bovey, Dennis Piekkola of Dayton, Ohio; a son-in-law, James Coulombe of Marble; sisters Elma Jacobson of New York Mills, Hazel Ritari of Sebeka; a brother, Rudy (Ruby) Tuorila of Calumet; 27 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday in the Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, where the service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Timothy D. Schellenback officiating.
