Lakely, a former Hamburg resident, were conducted Monday in Abilene, Texas. He will be buried in Eden Evergreen Cemetery during private services. Lakely, 54, died Thursday (Nov. 7, 1991) of cancer at his home in Abilene. He was born in Hamburg. He graduated from Eden High School in 1957 and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Lakely was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism during the Vietnam War. He later became a flight engineer instructor and assisted in the design of the Singer Link Simulator at Dyess Air Force Base. He retired as master sergeant after 28 years in the service. He continued to teach in the simulator when it was contracted to C.A.E. Link until his death. Survivors include his wife, Norma J. Lakely, and two daughters, Maureen and Kathleen Sue, all of Abilene; his mother, Sylvia of Hamburg, and a sister, Marilyn Mulhollan of Eland, Wis.
