He was born Aug. 9, 1916 in the Town of Hartland to the late August and Anna (Radtke) Hoppe. He married Esther M. Lemke Oct. 3, 1942. The couple farmed in the Town of Maple Grove for 27 years before retiring and moving to the Town of Lessor. After retirement, Walter worked for Asplundh and he was a Welhaven 4-H Leader in woodworking. Walter loved woodworking and watching his birds. He was a Supervisor for the Town of Lessor, member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lessor, and a former church custodian. Esther preceded him in death Sept. 21, 1999. Survivors include two daughters, Gladys (John) Humecki, Oneida and Grace (Alan) Ellingham, Racine a son, Dennis (Phyllis) Hoppe, Green Bay seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Peter) Plamann, Melanie (Thomas) Schmitt, Sheila (Dean) Re, Dan (Erin) Humecki, Paul (Zahra) Hujmecki, Eric (Kim) Ellingham and Sue Ellingham eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Irma Natzke, Bonduel and Esther Hoefs, Shawano and one brother, Carl Hoppe, Shawano. He was preceded in death by four brothers. Funeral service will be Monday, Feb. 28, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lessor, with Rev. Brad Pearson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Wendt Funeral Home, Bonduel, Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. to the time of service. A special thank you to the staff at Good Shepherd, Seymour, for the excellent care Walter received during the last 26 months.
