Glyndon Stuff CHAMPAIGN - John Glyndon Stuff was born March 5, 1925, in Dixon, to Clifford Harland and Helen Cecelia Starner Stuff. He graduated from Highland Grade School in 1939, Polo Community High School in 1943, the University of Illinois in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture, and earned a master of science degree in extension education from the U of I College of Agriculture in 1973. As a youth, Glyndon was a member of Pine Creek Valley 4-H Club from 1937-1946, winning numerous county and state project awards and county and state outstanding awards. He was a member of the National 4-H Club Congress Delegation in 1944, as well as a National Scholarship winner, which was a university tuition paid scholarship. He was involved with the Future Farmers of America his entire life. He was a member of Polo CHS Chapter from 1939-1946, chapter president from 1942-1943, Section 1 vice president from 1943-1944, state president from 1944-1945 and national president from 1945-1946. While presiding national president, he awarded his brother, Gerald, with the American farmer degree in 1946. He received a state farmer degree in 1943 and American farmer degree in 1944. He was able to attend and participate in the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis in October 2006 to be honored with his fellow officers on the 60th anniversary of their terms of office. He pledged Farm House Fraternity at the U of I (1948) and served as fraternity president 1949-1950. Honoraries at the U of I include Star and Scroll (fraternity honor), Alpha Zeta (agriculture) and Gamma Sigma Delta (agriculture). >From 1950-1958, he was the managing director of the Will County Farm Bureau in Joliet, managing director of the Champaign County Farm Bureau in Champaign from 1959-1974 and director of training for the Illinois Farm Bureau in Bloomington from 1975-1983. In 1983, Glyndon and his wife created Mary's Cake 'N' Candy Cupboard with stores in Urbana and Decatur, which they owned and managed until their retirement in 2000. He married Mary Elizabeth Love on Dec. 20, 1952, at the First Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, N.C., and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 20, 2002, (being the fourth generation of Stuffs to celebrate their 50th anniversary). He was baptized at Pine Creek Christian Church in 1939 and was a longtime member of University Place Christian Church in Champaign until 1982. In 1982, he helped found the Disciples of Christ Community Church in Urbana, where he was a member and elder until his death. Survivors include his wife, Mary Love Stuff, and his five children: Marilyn Love Ruzic (husband David), Pesotum; John Glyndon Stuff Jr., Champaign; Elizabeth Jane Hopkins (husband John), Dixon; William Gerald Stuff (wife Nilda), Indianapolis; and Carol Helen Stuff, Denver. Survivors also include six grandchildren: Gavin Stephen Hyde, Plano; Stacia Marilyn Hyde Carlson (husband Justin), Elgin; Shelby Marilyn Hyde, Pesotum; Sean Michael Hopkins, Dixon; Mary Frances Alexandra Stuff, Indianapolis; and Kathryn Elizabeth Jane Stuff, Indianapolis. Additional survivors include a sister-in-law, Aurilla Love Taylor, Urbana; two nieces, Leslie Ann Stuff Henkes (husband Trent), Luana, Iowa; Tammy Love, Mansfield, Mass.; and a first cousin, Dr. Patricia Jane Stuff, Bonduel, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gerald, and Gerald's wife, Betty. His hobbies included refinishing furniture, geneology and collecting antiques. Glyndon passed away at 10:40 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2006, surrounded by his family. He was one of the kindest men you'd ever want to know, loved his family "more than they could know" and loved his Irish setter Peg and all the other family four-legged grandchildren. His family celebrates the fact their beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle is now at home with Jesus, but profoundly mourns this precious loss. A private family funeral will be held in Polo on Dec. 9, and a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. in Champaign on Dec. 23 at University Place Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Glyndon Stuff Memorial Fund with FFA. Donations can be sent to: National FFA Foundation, P.O.
