Meyer, 67, died in his sleep Feb. 19, 2008, at home. A memorial celebration of Gator's life and potluck will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Park in Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Meyer, Lance Meyer, Jayden Meyer, Dean Wilson, Mike Gott and Les Mortenson. Gator was born Jan. 10, 1941, in Navarino, Wis., to Herbert and Lilyan Meyer on their family dairy farm. He arrived to Alaska in 1965 and only left the state he loved twice. Gator was employed at Clear Air Force Station as a teamster in the warehouse for more than 33 years until he retired in 1997. "The two great loves of his life were his family and the great outdoors," his family wrote. Gator held life membership in the Alaska Trappers Association, National Trappers Association, Fur Takers of America, Alaska Outdoor Council, National and Alaska State Chapter of Foundation for North America Wild Sheep, National Rifle Association, Ruffed Grouse Society and the Clear Sky Sportsmen Club. He was the Alaska Trapper of the Year in 1987 and inducted into the Alaska Trapper Association Hall of Fame in 2000. His family also wrote: "Gator was kind and generous to a fault with donations of his artwork and financial support to the organizations he loved and his community. He was a well-known artist who created antler carvings of the Alaskan animals and outdoor scenes he loved." As one of his dear friends recently wrote: "Gator was one of those people who lived life on a grand scale, and I'll never forget his hunting and trapping stories told with relish to every person who came into his shop. He never did things halfway." Gator was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine Pentecost. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Daryl Meyer; sons and daughter-in-law, Ted and Krystal Meyer, and Lance Meyer; and grandchildren, Hunter, Madison, Jayden and Talyn Meyer. Friends may send condolences to Daryl Meyer, P.O. Box 3079, Anderson 99744. Visit the online memorial at legacy.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
