(Hall) Yakel Bernice L. (Hall) Yakel, 91, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Woodland Village Nursing Home, Suring, where she had been a resident since Jan. 15, 1998. Born in Bonduel, Wis., on Dec. 21, 1907, she was one of five children of Charles and Augusta (Benz) Hall. Bernice was united in marriage to Leonard (Sam) Yakel, Dec. 9, 1926. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1997. They would have celebrated 71 years of marriage on Dec. 9, 1997. Bernice and her husband spent every day together at their work or fishing, hunting and working with Sams' bee business. She was superb cook who could cook venison or any game meat so that her guests thought it was beef. She never rested from cooking, canning, gardening, work and fishing, which she loved. The pastor of their church would stop by at lunch time, knowing that Bernice would find a few extra fish to toss into the pan. Sam and Bernice loved to go to South Dakota to hunt pheasants, staying with beloved friends of the area. Canada was also a! frequent fishing spot, they also had friends in the area. Bernice was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Suring, where she and Sam spent many hours painting, finishing woodwork and always arrived at church early every Sunday to greet all of their friends. Survivors to Bernice Yakel include one daughter, Joyce (William) Hewitt, Sheboygan; a son, Roger (Rosemary) Yakel, Green Bay; a daughter-in-law, Bernice Yakel, Slinger; eight grandchildren, Craig (Michelle) Yakel, Renee (William) Smits, Rae (Robert) Wetzel, Curt (Margaret) Yakel, Diane (Fran) Minor, Joelyn (Ken) Husslein, Cheri (David) Gruenke and Debi (Mark) Podrzay; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard (Sam); a son, Hollis in 1990; one great-granddaughter, Brenda Gruenke; three brothers; and one sister. Bernice, who Sam often called ``Blondie'', will be sadly missed by her family and many friends who loved her so much. She kept her sense of humor and gentle love for everyone, especially the staff at the nursing home until her death. Friends may call at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home, Suring, Sunday, April 11, 1999, from 4 to 8 p.m. Visitation continues Monday at 10 a.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church until funeral services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Melvin E.
