Schaufel REDDING -- John C. Schaufel, 57, of Redding died Friday, May 26, 2000, at his second home in Pella, Wis., following -- lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held at -- p.m. Thursday at Rhodes -- Beil Funeral Home in Clintonville, Wis. Born Dec. 7, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wis., he moved to Shasta County in 1992 from Sacramento. Schaufel, who was -- perfusionist at Mercy Medical Center in Redding and assisted in surgeries by operating -- heart and lung machine. He was instrumental in establishing -- heart program at Mercy Medical Center and retired in 1996 due to ill health. Survivors include wife Arletta Letty of Redding; mother Ruth Schaufel of Sacramento; daughters Jenny Boydston of Pella, Wis., and Jessica May of Shawano, Wis.; brother Chester of Plymouth; and five grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Rhodes -- Beil Funeral Home in Clintonville, Wis.
