Comer Berga J. Comer 91, of McCune, Kan., died 4:10 a.m., Wednesday September 3, 2008 at St. John's Regional Medical Center following a short illness. Berga was born November 9, 1916 in Gresham, Wisconsin the daughter of William Clark and Margaret (Miller) Davids. She was raised in the Stockbridge-Munsee Community in East Central Wisconsin before settling in McCune, KS after WWII. She has been apart of this community for 70 years. In 1941 she married James Edward Comer Jr. in Wisconsin; he preceded her in death in 1970. Berga worked as a Registered Nurse for the Public Health Administration in Kansas for over 40 years. She retired in the mid 1970's. Berga was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Parsons; a member of the Professional Nursing Organization and Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans. Survivors include sons Phil Comer of McCune, Kan., and Steve Comer and wife Kate Hubbs of Sand Lake, NY. Three grandchildren Debra Criner, Kayli Comer and Colton Comer; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, stepson James Edward Comer III and ten brothers and sisters. Graveside Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday September 8, 2008 at Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort, Scott, Kan., with Rev. David Domanski officiating. Informal visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday September 7, 2008 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS. E-mail condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to Berga Davids Comer Memorial Stockbridge-Munsee Community Scholarship Fund.
