He was born Jan. 4, 1922, to Lewis and Rose Colson in Eland, Wis. He married Arlene Doris Berquist in March 1956 in Seattle. A social worker and educator, he was a teacher to Inuit children on Pribiloff Island, Alaska, head counselor at Secret Harbor Farms on Cypress Island, Wash., a social worker for Children's Home Center in Santa Ana and a supervisor of adoptions at Kern County Welfare Department in Bakersfield, retiring in 1980. He served as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He is survived by three sons, Greg Colson of Venice and Jeff and Doug Colson of San Pedro.
