Wegner Melvin H. Wegner, 75, Shawano, formerly of Cecil, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Shawano Medical Center. Melvin was born March 31, 1923, in the Township of Washington, the son of the late Robert and Ida (Klapper) Wegner. He was united in marriage to Shirley Kallies on August 25, 1956, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Pulcifer. He was a farmer and lived on the family farm until 1988 when they moved to Shawano. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Cecil and also served on the church board. He was a member of the Cecil Town of Washington Fire Dept. for 39 years. He was also a member of the Navarino Nature Center, Bonduel FFA Alumni, Shawano County Farm Bureau, White Clay Lake Sportsman Club, and Pulcifer Riverside Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed playing cards and was a card club member for 37 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; two sons, Steven (Rogene) Wegner, Cecil; Thomas (Corina) Wegner, Cecil; one daughter, Patricia (Louis) Milheiser, Appleton; two granddaughters, Lisa and Amy Milheiser; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Gaylord) Schenkoski and Jamie (Tammy) Breitrick; four step great-grandchildren; one sister, Arbutus (Kenneth) Schneider, Cecil; father-in-law, Edwin Kallies, Shawano; sisters-in-law, Delores (Duane) Horsens, Germantown; Barbara (Allen) Engebretsen, Cecil; brother-in-law, Maynard (Hellen) Kallies, Shawano; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle (Marvin) Neumann and his mother-in-law, Gertrude Kallies. Friends and relatives may call at the Zastrow Funeral Home, Cecil on Sunday, Jan. 3, from 3 to 8 p.m. Visitation Monday at St. John United Church of Christ, Cecil from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Sara Hartman and Deacon Charles Daily officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. he family would like to give a special thanks to the Special Care Nurses and Drs. at the Shawano Medical Center. Melvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all. He especially enjoyed his time with his twin granddaughters.
