He became a child of God through holy baptism and later confirmed those vows. After graduating from Morgan Park High School in Chicago, Al joined the military, where he ultimately retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force. He served in active duty in the Korean War and then was with the 176th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Traux Field in Madison, Wisconsin as a reservist. Al attended the University of Illinois in the engineering program and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1973. He was a partner at Arthur, Hanson, Miller, and Harms in Madison. After retiring, Al got antsy and became the Corporate Counselor of Shawano County, and WI. from the fall of 1987 to spring of 1990. After retiring for a second time, Al moved to Sun City. Al joined Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in July of 1996. There he met Alverta and t! hey weremarried September 23, 1999. Al became involved in various activities and held several positions including, usher, Building Committee member in 1997 and Congregational President in 2000. Al served on the Board of Directors of the Union Hills Country Club. Al was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Alverta, his ex-wife Ruth of Gresham, WI., his sister Grace Nichols of Houston, Texas, sons Peter Hanson and his wife Martha of Wilmette, Illinois, and Tom Hanson and his wife Michelle of Broomfield, Colorado, twin daughters Lisa Hanson and her husband, Jesse of Estes Park, Colorado, Linda Garrow and her husband Joe of Long Beach, California, eight grandchildren, Katherine, Ellen, Paul, Gunnar, Tia, Logan, Andrew, and Julia, two step children, Jim Diez, and his wife Pam, Scott Diez and his wife Linora, and three step-grandchildren, Jim, April and Angie. Al often discussed Christianity and stated at one time, "I am a practicing Christian but sometim! es not a very good one." While undergoing further medical treatment at Plaza del Rio, Al asked Alverta that his wedding band be brought to him and when she came back with it, he asked that she put it back on his ringfinger and "marry him all over again." Al and Alverta often discussed how grateful they were for their combined faith and love for their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which brought them together at Fountain of Life. Al was recently diagnosed as having lung and esophagus cancer and had successfully undergone lung cancer removal surgery. Al was called to his eternal rest on Thursday, July 14, 2005 having reached the age of 75 years, 5 months, and 21 days.
