A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Evangelical Covenant Church, 1145 C St. The Rev. Tommy Thompson will officiate. His ashes will be scattered at Gunsight Mountain. Mr. DeHusson was born June 6, 1931, in Eland, Wis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably served in active duty in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. In 1962, he moved to Fairbanks, relocating to Anchorage with his family in 1966 to start a job with Anchorage Telephone Utility. He retired in 1988 from ATU and divided his time between his cabin in Eureka and Nelson, Wis. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for 35 years, the American Legion for 14 years and an active member of the Civil Air Patrol, involved in search and rescue. Mr. DeHusson's dream was to support his family as a commercial pilot, but he settled on piloting as a lifelong hobby. He received his pilot's license in 1966 and flew until approximately 1990. His family said: "Our dad loved the Alaska way of life and he took his family camping, fishing and snowmachining. He taught us how to shoot and handle firearms and taught the boys how to hunt. His passion for the outdoors was used to provide for his large family. Every fall we had a moose or caribou to feed us through that year. We regularly enjoyed fish, geese and even rabbit on occasion. He taught us how to be prepared for emergencies and how to survive. As a result our homes and vehicles are well equipped for any unseen event." He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Denise DeHusson; daughters, Renee DeHusson and Dawn Kehm; son, Gordon DeHusson; and grandchildren, Nicole, Anthony, Bryant, Rachael, Jesse and Austin. He was preceded in death by his children, Walter "Little Guy" and Shirley Doreen. Arrangements were by Witzleben Family Funeral Homes & Crematory.
