The seventh of ten children, he was born Nov. 22, 1926, in Millcreek, W.Va. to the late Robert Garfield and Pearl Frances (Vernon) Montgomery. He was educated in the Mount Hope School System, lettering in track and football and graduating from high school in May of 1944. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in January of 1945, took his basic training at Camp Gordon, Ga. and served in the occupation of Germany. Upon returning home he was trained in Chicago, Ill. as a radio technician. He married the former Sophie Yurek of Pulaski, Wis., and moved to Washington, D.C., in 1950. He worked for the Defense Department, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed gardening, dancing and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is further survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and April Montgomery, Hedgesville, W.Va; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathleen Montgomery and Teresa and Michael Kennedy, all of Bethesda, Md.; two grandchildren, Kaitlin and Stephanie; two sisters, Margaret M. Boehly, Hamilton, Ohio, Ella Walker, Mount Hope, W. Va.; and one brother, Grant Montgomery, Hamilton, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Robert; two brothers, Russel and Abner Montgomery; three sisters, Clara Bell Witt, Letty Frances Suttle, and Maxine J. Rhoades. Friends may call at Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation continues after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, Fr. Patrick Gawrylewski officiating with burial in Assumption B.V.M. Cemetery, Pulaski.
