Blum Albert "Al" J. Blum, 83, of Cecil passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Al was born on Feb. 2, 1926, to the late Peter and Dora (Book) Blum at West Phalia, Iowa. Al served in the United States Army. On Feb. 7, 1950, he married Mildred Kloewer at St. Boniface Catholic Church in West Phalia, Iowa. Al and Mickie farmed in the Cecil area. He always took pride in a straight corn row. After retiring, he enjoyed driving for and visiting with the Amish. He was a member of the Bonduel American Legion Post 217, a member of the White Clay Lake Sportsman Club and he loved to play pool. He played baseball up until he was 50 and then very much enjoyed coaching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the game of baseball. He loved to attend the activities that all the children participated in. Al was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Cecil and for many years helped with the maintenance of the church. He is survived by his wife, Mildred "Mickie" Blum of Cecil; his children, Gary (Diane) Blum, Cecil, Cindy (Leonard) Herm, Green Bay, Martha (David) Whorrall, New Holstein, Edward (Gale) Blum, Bonduel, Mary (John) DeBauch, Cecil, Karen (Jerry) Patenaude, Green Bay, Diane (Randy) Lohff, Shawano, Ronald (Deborah) Blum, Green Bay; 23 grandchildren, Scott (Angela) Blum, Chris, Deana and Derek Blum, Andrea Herm, Joe Herm, Kim (Todd) Singleton, Erin (John) Vercher, Jamie (Kris) Walta, Pam (Mikel) Lauber, Matthew (Rachel) Blum, Joseph Blum, Andy, Adam, Ashley and Aaron DeBauch, Greg Patenaude (fianc/, Kari), Rebecca Patenaude (fianc/, Taylor), Melissa Patenaude, Kevin, Kathy and Dan Lohff, Tyler Elliott; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler Blum, Lexi and Chris Seals, Noah, Eliza and Abigail Walta, Natali Lauber; a brother, Herbert (Marie) Blum, Harlan, Iowa; sisters, Antilia Wingert, Harlan, Iowa, Bernice Rauterkus, Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Esther; brothers-in-law, Alfred Wingert and Leonard Rauterkus. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Martin Catholic Church in Cecil with Father Len Evers and Deacon Tom Craig officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Bonduel American Legion Post 217 will conduct military rites at the church following the service. Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil is assisting the family. The family would like to thank Dr. Qualheim, Shawano Medical Center and ThedaCare Hospice for their wonderful care of our husband and father.
