Sohr, 104, Bonduel, passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at home. She was born Sept. 3, 1895, in Greenville to the late James B. and Jennie (Cough) Mills. Jessie always wanted to be a teacher, and after graduating from Outagamie Teacher's School, she taught in Shawano County for 17 years. She taught at Rose Lawn, Green Valley, Advance, Bonduel and Bowler. She was the first teacher in Bonduel to teach sewing. Jessie married Harold W. Sohr June 18, 1931, at her family home in Advance. The couple lived on State Street in Bonduel all of their married life and Jessie continued to live there after Harold preceded her in death Dec. 2, 1988. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church Bonduel, a past president of Ladies Aid and Bonduel Woman's Club, a Girl Scout and Brownie Troop Leader for 17 years, member of Shawano Community Hospital Legacy Club, Shawano Masonic Lodge Sweetheart and was involved in MasonWoods Community. Jessie enjoyed gardening and her flowers, tatting, crocheting, knitting, sewing, baking, traveling, card clubs and her lake cottage. She was known for her beautiful handwriting. At 102 years she was honored to have the first ride on new Hwy 29 from Shawano to Bonduel and was recognized by Gov. Tommy Thompson at the Highway dedication. Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Peterson, Champaign, Ill. and a son, G.H. Randy (Dorothy) Sohr, Green Bay four grandchildren, Patti Jo Sohr, Liberty Lake, Wash. Barbara Sohr, Green Bay Jeff Peterson, Champaign, Ill. and Bob Peterson, Chicago, Ill. also nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leigh, Russell and Bruce and two sisters, Dorothy Krueger and Marjorie Schuette. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25 at Zion United Methodist Church, Bonduel, with the Rev. James H. Cotter officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Friends may call at Wendt Funeral Home, Bonduel, Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. to the time of service. The family would like to extend special thank yous to Dr. Gregory Thatcher, Shawano Community Hospice, Jean Zielinski, Mary Raasch, Patsey Robertson, Sandy Staszak and George and Sharon Stern.
