She was born on October 12, 1933, at the home of her grandparents, Carl and Josie Ward, which was in Shawano County. Janis was the daughter of Joel and Rose (Buchberger) Ward. She attended Elm Lawn Grade School, which was a one-room school house and was a graduate of Seymour High School, class of 1952. Janis moved to Kaukauna and had been employed by Zwicker Knitting Mills, Thilmany Paper, and Red Owl Delicatessen. On November 7, 1959, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Trettin in Seymour at St. John Catholic Church. Janis enjoyed visiting Uncle Tony and Aunt Edna in Florida and the cottage at Wabeno on Roberts Lake, where she was cook for the deer hunting camp. She loved to bowl, play cards, and travel. She also was expected to bring potato salad to all family functions. Janis was caregiver to Steenie Weyenberg for 6 years as well. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; three sons: Mark, Kaukauna; David (Kay) and children, Elizabeth and Chad, Kaukauna; Paul (Tracy) and children, Alanna and Alison, Manito, IL; 11 brothers and sisters: Nancy Piccolo, Clintonville; Glen (Yvonne) Ward, Green Bay; Joan Abel, Black Creek; Joyce (Wayne) Heim, Green Bay; Carl (Luella) Ward, Seymour; Mina (Bruce) Landsverk, Freedom; Mary (Samuel) Rettler, Kaukauna; Dan (Cindy) Ward, Appleton; Anita (Ray) Theobald, Black Creek; Patrick (Colleen) Ward, Black Creek; Debra (Bill) Dicke, Appleton; Lisa Ward, LaCrosse; a brother-in-law, Gerald (Mary) Trettin, Kaukauna. She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers: Ivan "Bud", David, and William; her father and mother-in-law, Otto and Minnie Trettin. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 NOON on Thursday September 17, 2009, at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH at ST. ALOYSIUS SITE, 2401 Main Ave., Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends will be received on Thursday directly at Church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in her name.
