THOMAS Lawrence Henry Thomas, a retired steel inspector for Pittsburg Testing Laboratory, died Friday in a Portland hospital of causes related to age. He was 77. There will be no service at his request. Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery. The Southeast Portland resident was born in Shawano, Wis., on Jan. 27, 1927. Mr. Thomas served in the merchant marine during World War II and also worked for Grace Line in San Francisco and Portland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Zoe Rae Thomas; two daughters, Julie Ferrante and Laurie Gardner, both of Portland; a son, Henry Thomas of Portland; and four grandchildren.
