Nuske WASHBURN - The Funeral Of Elmer C. Nuske, 60, of Washburn, who was serving as mayor at the time of his death, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Washburn United Methodist Church, the Revs. Greta Gibson and Wolford Price officiating. Burial will be in Linn-Mount Vernon Cemetery, Washburn. Military rites will be accorded by Washburn American Legion Post 661. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Newton Memorial Home, Washburn, and one hour before the service at the church. Mr. Nuske died at 6:20 p.m. Monday (Oct. 1, 1990) in the emergency room of Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. He was born Aug. 15, 1930, in Shawano, Wis., a son of Edward C. and Lucile Hoffman Nuske. He married Lois J. Held April 11, 1950, in Washburn. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Mike, Morton; one daughter, Debbie Nuske, Peoria; two brothers, Roger, Washburn, and Donald, Hennepin; three sisters, Betty Meister, Doris Nuske and Jeanette Nuske, all of Washburn; and two granddaughters. One daughter preceded him in death. He worked for his father at the Washburn Cheese Factory for 10 years and then was employed by Schierer's Dairy in Metamora for 15 years. In 1973, he joined Caterpillar Tractor Co. at Mossville and was employed as a tool controller until his retirement on Aug. 31, 1990. He was a member of the Washburn United Methodist Church, where he served as a lay leader and was a past church board president. He was a Washburn village trustee from 1965 to 1969, becoming mayor in 1969 and serving until 1981. In 1989 he was again elected mayor and was serving in that capacity at the time of his death. He was a member of Washburn American Legion Post 661 and the Washburn Community Fire Protection District, of which he was a past fire chief. He was also former president of the local chapter of the American Field Service. He was an Army veteran serving in Korea.
