Kroening Ewald H. Kroening, age 89 of Bonduel, passed away Monday, Sept. 14, 2009 in DePere. Born on March 3, 1920 in Krakow, he was the son of the late William and Ella (Dirks) Kroening. On June 26, 1943 he was united in marriage to Violet Krause in Bonduel. Violet preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 1989. Ewald farmed the family farm in the Town of Hartland most of his life and was still living there at the time of his death. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel. In his free time, Ewald enjoyed playing Sheepshead, reading magazines such as Life and U.S. News, and spending time with his dog. Ewald is survived by: his son, James (Judy) Kroening of Bonduel; three daughters, Joanne (Roman) Kramer of Sheboygan, Judy (Michael) Daul of Green Bay, Jermaine (Kenneth) Dommer of Green Bay; ten grandchildren, Greg and Pam Kramer, Charles, Jeffrey, James Jr., Dean and Kevin Kroening, Rev. Wade, Amy and Brian (Kathryn) Daul; and five great-grandchildren. Ewald is further survived by: two brothers, Harley (Rose) Kroening of Shawano, Raymond (Ena) Kroening of Krakow; one sister, Alice (Larry) Veeser of Neenah; sister-in-law, Linda Kroening of Appleton; and nieces and nephews. Ewald was preceded in death by: his wife, Violet; his parents; four brothers, Lenarth, Lawrence, Edwin "Fritz", Edgar; and three sisters, Eleanor Dittman, Elda Reinke and Dorothy Wach. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel with the Rev. Timothy Shoup and the Rev. Wade Daul officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday after 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
