SMITH 78, of Columbia City died Tuesday at home. The Allen County native was a retired bookkeeper for Collins Oldsmobile and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was the widow of Arthur A. Heuer, who died in 1971, and Harry Smith, who died in 1990. Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Falkenstern of Fort Wayne; sons, James Heuer of Columbia City and Charles F. Heuer of Munster; stepsons, Gerald Smith and Thomas Smith, both of Fort Wayne, and David Smith of Shawano, Wis.; a brother, Delbert Scherrer of Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Friday in D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, where calling is 5 to 9 p.m. today, and noon to 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Memorials are to the American Heart Association or Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.
