Schrank Roger E. Schrank, age 71, Wittenberg, died Thursday, July 30, 2009 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. He was born on June 1, 1938 in Birnamwood, the son of the late Vernon H.W. and Elsie (Kortbein) Schrank. On Oct. 29, 1961 he was united in marriage to Joanne Foth in Brodhead, Wis. She survives. Roger joined the U.S. Navy in 1956 and served for four years. He especially enjoyed the time spent in Alaska during his Navy days. Roger, Joanne and their two children spent 10 years in Ripon, Wis., where Roger worked as a machinist at Speed Queen Corporation. He also ran a service station in Ripon with his father Vernon. In 1972, the family moved to Wittenberg to take over the dairy farm from Roger's father-in-law, Milton Foth. Roger and Joanne ran the farm until 1994 when it was sold and Roger retired. Roger enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting pool and playing cards. He was a mechanic at heart, who had the ability to fix anything that was in need of repair, especially if it belonged to someone else who was in need of help. He particularly enjoyed his fishing trips to Crooked Lake, M! inn. Anyone who knew Roger can relate to the many stories that he shared. Roger had a "gift of gab" that he will always be remembered for. In addition to his wife Joanne, Roger is survived by one son, Tom (Stacey) Schrank, Wittenberg; two grandchildren, Danny and Jennifer Schrank; two sisters, Ruthie (Richard) Olsen and Dianne Long, both of Wittenberg; one brother, David Schrank, Green Bay; and one uncle, Arvin (Patricia) Schrank, Shawano. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Marie Schrank. There will be a public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at Schmidt Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg. A private family service will be held. The family guestbook and condolences are available at schmidtschulta.com. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
