    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ChgoKid Surnames: Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.wisconsin.counties.shawano/16121/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Wausau Daily Herald June 17, 2009 John A. Damitz John Anthony Damitz, 71, Nikiski, Alaska, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna, Alaska, with his wife by his side. Mr. Damitz was born May 27, 1938, to George and Cecilia (Wilhelm) Damitz in Antigo. John attended and graduated from Antigo High School. Soon after he graduated, he served in the Wisconsin National Guard. On Jan. 28, 1967, he married his wife, Diana, in Wausau. John was an auto mechanic by trade. He worked for Shanak's Garage, and Mason and Sim's Tire Shop. John and his wife, Diana, were owner/operators of John's Auto Services in Rib Mountain from 1968 to 1989. Together they also owned and operated the Rib Mountain Petro Mart in Rib Mountain from 1990 to 1994. This was the beginning of their retirement. They traveled in their motor home to the southern states. In the summer of 1995, they motor-homed the Alcan into Alaska, deciding Alaska would be the place to settle down so they could fish and hunt. When in Wisconsin, hunting whitetail deer on his home farm in Aniwa with his father and brothers was a tradition. At their lake home in northern Wisconsin, the fishing for walleyes and muskies was another favorite. When living in Alaska, he fished the Kenai River. He loved halibut fishing and trolling for silvers from the "Diana Lee" in Kachemak Bay and Resurrection Bay. He enjoyed the scenery just as much as he did the fishing. When John was at his home on Paradise Island, he enjoyed all the water fowl and moose that inhabited Daniel's Lake which he shared with relatives and friends. His blacktail deer hunting trip on the Kittiwake II to Kodiak was very successful, as was the moose hunt to Calgon Island on the "Diana Lee." He will be greatly missed by his wife, family and friends. John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Diana Lee (Tesch) Damitz of Nikiski; sisters, Patsy Damitz of Aniwa, Ann Damitz of McGregor, Texas, Barb Payton of Indianapolis, and Marian and her husband, Richard Meidl of Peoria, Ariz.; brothers, Kenneth and his wife, Tessy of Aniwa, Joseph Damitz of Schofield, James Damitz and his wife, Susan of Aniwa, and George Damitz and his wife, Lou Anne of McGregor; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Claire Martzahl. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2009, at The Driftwood Inn, 138 W. Bunnell Ave., Homer AK 99603. His cremated remains will be scattered in the Kachemak Bay at a later date. Arrangements made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai, Alaska. Memorial donations may be made in memory of John to the Parkinson's Resources of Oregon, 3975 Mercantile Drive, Suite 154, Lake Oswego OR 97035. UPHAM (c.1832 - 1865) Shawano County Journal - Thursday, April 13, 1865 Obituary - UPHAM - Died at his residence in the village, on Friday morning the seventh inst., of congestive chill, after a brief illness of 24 hours, Nathan D. Upham, brother of G. M. Upham, one of the proprietors of this paper, aged 33 years. Shawano County Journal - Thursday, April 13, 1865 UPHAM - Died, at his residence in this village, on Friday morning the 7th inst, of congestive chill, after a brief illness of 24 hours, NATHAN D. UPHAM brother of C. M. Upham one of the Proprietors of this paper aged 33 years. Our hand trembles while endeavoring to write in commemoration of this our deceased and very dearly esteemed friend, knowing our best efforts will prove too futile; but his kind remembrances, create feelings that must find vent in language. It seems hardly credible that NATHAN UPHAM, the sound of whose familiar voice, and manly footsteps, so recently fell on our hearing, is today sleeping the last sleep of death; that family which but a week ago, was cemented heart to heart, by pleasant prospects and domestic happiness, is today the rendezvous of affliction, broken up and departed from our midst, one to his narrow home, the remnant to weep on kindred breasts that the young companion of his life and love is a weeping widow, and their offspring fatherless. Yet such is the sad verity. The husband, father, friend, neighbor, citizen, universally beloved is dead. The happy homestead is vacated; his wife is a widow; his little son and daughter call their Pa in vain. No more will his voice be heard among us; no more his hands administer deeds of kindness to family acquaintances or strangers. All miss him; all weep in loosing him; his friends are numerous. Truly the heart of every white man, and many an aborigine that k! new him in Shawano County, is clad in drapery of mourning. We have not lost a friend but a brother. One whose manly traits, whose kind influences, and Christian characteristics, are enshrined in our memory and graven in our affection. He dies, but not his virtues; they live to be remembered, and cherished, and imitated, by those he leaves behind to shed the tear of friendship and love on his grave. We cannot forget his benevolence; he was always generous hearted, his substance was ever freely given to assist the indigent and sustain the good; whenever his means, or time, or person, or talents, could be productive in enhancing happiness, they were cheerfully offered and gladly accepted. He never allowed himself to speak or think evil of any one; was absolutely honest in his dealings with all, and adored the mean practice of taking the advantage of ignorance. He was a tender husband, an affectionate father, a sincere friend, an intelligent, industrious and faithful citizen, e! ndowed withal with noble business capacities. And moreover a true Chri stian, who felt and retained Divine influence in his heart; his delight was in the service of God, and nothing but stern necessity detained him from public worship. He was no sectarian, no bigot, journeyed Heaven-ward, treading in the footsteps of Christ; nominally a Presbyterian, nevertheless alike friendly with all, and supported the gospel through that means best in his power, regardless of name or government. In short, "we find no fault in him." He died peaceful; he died happy; in the meridian of life, ere he had commenced to descend the declivity of time, in the very vigor and flower of manhoodâ?"ripe for Heavenâ?"ere the wrinkles had defaced his brow or age enfeebled his pulse. We feel sad because we have lost him, yet shall rejoice our loss is his gain. We cannot console the afflicted widow, would we could; we can sympathize with and pray for her; her consolation must come through super-human power, He cannot come to her, she will go to him. Yet, O yet, methinks his! spirit hovers 'round. Some inward speaking love seems to indicate that buried dear ones, are guardian angels, at least, our remembrances of them oft restrains an evil thought and imparts a good desire. We mourn but not without hope. Farewell brother, in the grave we lay thee. And on thy ashes heap the heavy clod; Worms may eat, but Christ will not evade thee. Thy soul is thee, and it is breath of God. Yea, thy mortal must become immortal! Corruption will restore thy mouldering dust, as the winter turns the withered autumn, to balmey spring-time. So they dying must, in the mourning of the resurrection, transform thy mortal, now of mouldering clay, into the sunshine of eternal day; and at the sound of Gabriel's trump shall rise. To meet its ransomed spirit in the skies. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He had seemed to get better, when a relapse got worse until death came. He was twenty-seven years of age and leaves his wife and two little boys, one four years old and the other six months. He was born near Underhill and grew up on a farm there. He went to country school there and when the war broke out, he went into the service for six months. He married in 1918 to Miss Alma Pick who lived near Cecil in the Town of Washington. Mr. Bahrke worked for the Wolf River Paper and Fibre Company in the paper mill. A private funeral was held Sunday afternoon, only the family and Rev. Albrecht being present. Interment was made in the Woodlawn. His death is strikingly sad because of the two children who are left fatherless and the mother who is left a widow. The sympathy of all who know of the case goes out to the bereaved ones.
