Their daughter, Clara Rosina, was my grandmother. I remember her from the late 1940's through 1958. Will share what I know. He was born Nov. 1, 1925 in Oshkosh to the late Hugo and Janet (Moore) Schroeder. Doug joined the army in 1945, but was discharged after a car accident left him disabled. He then married Helen Postl on Oct. 14, 1948 in Oshkosh where they lived for several years. Doug was a union negotiator for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners for 23 years, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen; several very special nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews. He is further survived by his brother Gerald (Fran) Schroeder, Colorado; brothers-in-law James (Emily) Postl, Sterling Heights, Mich., and Richard (Seiko) Postl, Shawano; and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Schroeder. Doug also leaves behind his good friend Buddy. Doug was also preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Merle (Jane) (Carol) and Ralph. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, at Swedberg Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dave Parrett officiating. Burial will be in Lake Drive Cemetery, with full military honors. Family and friends may call at Swedberg Funeral Home on Monday, June 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, June 30, from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Parsch and Rev. Timothy J. Parsch, all serving as Lutheran pastors. She was born in a log cabin in the Town of Morris, Shawano County, on Sept. 25, 1915, the daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Hanke) Hartleben. She told of walking through the woods with her older brothers to attend Banner School, where she graduated from the 8th grade. She was employed as a "hired girl" for families of relatives. When she was 18, she started working for Mrs. Viola Johnson in Wittenberg. Mrs. Johnson had a women's dress shop and would bring dresses home for Clara that cost 29 cents. Clara did the housework and cooking and was a companion for the Johnson's only son, Buddy. Clara married John Vincent Boreen on July 22, 1936. They farmed in the Town of Wittenberg and had two daughters, Vivian and Maxine. That marriage ended in divorce. Clara then married Albert Erickson on Aug. 24, 1946. They farmed in the Town of Morris until Albert passed away in 1984. For the next 10 years, Clara took turns living with her daughters. Clara was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Town of Morris and the Women of Faith. Survivors include: two daughters, Vivian (Arlen) Koepke, Town of Morris, Maxine (Gordon) Graetz, Clintonville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many cousins; nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands and parents, Clara was preceded in death by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter (Lillian) Hartleben, Arthur (Selma) Hartleben, Arnold (Caroline) Hartleben and her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille (Ben) Wopshel. Clara will be missed by her family who loved her. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Town of Morris. The Rev. John Hielsberg will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 am. until the time of service at the church. Gerald Edgar Murphy was born May 2, 1927 in the Town of Stockbridge, Calumet County, to the late Frank and Johanna (Thill) Murphy. He entered the U.S. Army and served in World War II from October 1945 to April 1946. Jerry was united in marriage on Jan. 29, 1949 to Theresa R. Shest at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Tigerton. After marriage the couple dairy farmed for some years, and then Jerry began driving milk truck, he worked at a cheese factory and at the Tigerton Furniture Factory. He had also drove gravel truck for WJ Jones of Milwaukee for around 10 years. In 1966 he started selling cars for Mayne Auto Sales in Marion and moved in 1993 to Klein Dodge in Clintonville, continuing to help out part-time until his retirement party in April 2009. Jerry was an active member of St. Anthony's, where he was involved with the Church Choir, the Community Choir, and is a former Trustee. He was also very proud to be a Knights of Columbus - 4th Degree Member and is a past Grand Knight. Jerry is a former president and member of the Marion Lions and is a member of Tigerton Lions Club. He volunteered for many years in Lions Club as a Zone Chairman for our area and he served as Town Clerk for the Town of Fairbanks. His other memberships included the American Legion Post 239 and the Historical Society, both of Tigerton. Jerry liked deer hunting, golfing, and playing the violin. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was an excellent story teller, and he especially loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren. Survivors include: his dear wife, Theresa; and four children, Judy Murphy of Tigerton, Gerald A. (Ilson) Murphy of Winnsboro, S.C., John (Bev) Murphy of Antigo, and Jean (fianc/ Tim Morgan) Murphy of Clintonville. There are five grandchildren, Kathy, Gerald (Kathy), Scott, Theresa and Jeralyn Murphy. There is one brother, Frank (Marion) Murphy of Tigerton; and two sisters-in-law, Lillian (Jerome) Alft and Frances Shest, both of Tigerton. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Tigerton. Fr. Born on Dec. 1, 1920 in Clintonville, she was the daughter of the late David and Blanche Mary (Allen) Hanson. On May 11, 1946 she was united in marriage to Wilbert F. Peterman at the St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Together the couple lived in Shawano until 1972 when they moved to the Town of Richmond. Wilbert preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1997. Virginia was a member of the St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in the Town of Richmond where she had been a former member of the Ladies Aid. She had a love for people and animals. Virginia is survived by: two sons, Glenn (Deborah) Peterman of Two Rivers, James (Barbara) Peterman of Shawano; a daughter, Diane (Jeffery) Peterman-Simmons of Glendale; three grandchildren, Sarah Peterman, Adam Peterman, David Peterman-Simmons; a brother, Dwayne "Butch" (Lois) Hanson of Shawano; sister-in-law, Gertie Hanson of Ripon; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. A graduate of Shawano High School and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Evelyn was a teacher in the Shawano and Gresham School District. Survivors include: her daughter, Pat (David) Baumgartner of Green Bay; and her son, Donald (Gail) Wolf of Elkhorn. He was born on December 28, 1952, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Charles F. and Beverly Y. (Bastian) Dillett. Fred graduated from Shawano High School and went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he met the love of his life, Ann Donkle. In 1977, Fred graduated from college with a bachelor of science in journalism. He followed Ann out to California and worked in sales. On June 23, 1979, Fred was united in marriage to Ann Donkle in Reno, Nevada. In 1982, Fred started his own communication company, "Telcom" and ran that business for 25 years. He then became a land developer in several cities in California including: Livermore, Antioch and Petaluma. For 12 years, Fred fished on his boat "Amigo" in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico fishing for large salt water fish. Fred and Ann lived in Danville and Diablo for 30 years and recently moved to Cross Plains in January of 2007. In his spare time Fred enjoyed yachting, deep sea salt water fishing, hunting, golfing, traveling, computers and spending time on the internet. Fred also loved time spent with family, friends and his Great Pyrenees a! nd Golden Retriever dogs. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Ann Dillett of Cross Plains, WI; his mother Beverly Schillinger of Dixon, CA; a brother Charles Dillett of Walnut Creek, CA; two sisters, Louise (Rob) Quick of Arlington, TX and Heidi (George) Palchik of Dixon, CA; aunt Priscilla Jacobs of Madison, WI; four nieces Jennifer Land of Euless, TX, Hannah Palchik of Dixon, CA, Maegen Henze of Hartland, WI and Erin Henze of "The Grove"; and three nephews Samuel Palchik of Dixon, CA, Shawn Henze of Tokyo, Japan and Jed Henze of Hartland, WI. Fred is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Aunt Florence Dillett of Shawano, WI, Uncle Raymond Bastian of Milwaukee, WI and his step father Herbert Schillinger of Milwaukee, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, WI, on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at 10:30 AM with Father Thomas L. Kelley officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass. Memorials may be made in Fred's name to HospiceCare, Inc., 5395 E. Alfred enjoyed reading, listening to music, watching movies, doing pencil drawings of fantasy artwork, and spending time with his family especially his beloved nieces and nephews.
