He was 90 years old. He was born May 26, 1917, the son of the late Ole and Marie (Johnson) Tveten. On June 13, 1942, he married Vera (Remington) at the Congregational Church in Antigo. Rev. Samuel Gutensohn performed the ceremony. Mr. Tveten graduated from Elcho High School in 1938. He served in the Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of World War II. During his four years of military service, he worked as a cook in the 13th General Hospital. He later belonged to the VFW, American Legion, and 40 and 8. Mr. Tveten was employed as a custodian at the Antigo Junior High School. He had also worked for Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, and Four Wheel Drive in Clintonville. He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, and served as deacon, usher, trustee, custodian and member of Men's Brotherhood. He spent many hours volunteering at the food pantry, ! which held a special place in his heart. Mr. Tveten's interests include cutting wood with a Swede saw, picking raspberries and strawberries, hunting, fishing and camping. He became an "honorary" Knights of Columbus member after helping to build the Antigo KC Hall. At hunting camp, he was always the camp cook. In addition to his wife, Vera (Remington), he is survived by three daughters, Cathy (Russel) Volz, New London Linda (Jim) Bruss, Pickerell and Susan (Ronald) Moseman, Aniwa two sons, Tim (Ruth), Antigo and Tom, Antigo three sisters, Ruth Mikolajak, Frances Howe, and Elaine Reynolds, all of Elcho one brother, Dean, Somerset one sister-in-law, Jeanette Tveten, Fish Creek ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Neal three brothers, Walter Gordon and Charles and one grandson, Jason Liederbach. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Church of Christ in Antigo. Rev. Audrey Alexander will officiate. Visitation will take place Tuesday, April 1 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home in Antigo. A second visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 until the time of services at church. He was born July 8, 1922, in Edgar, to the late Paul and Hermina (Borchardt) Betzner. On May 31, 1952, he married Alice Schneider at St. John's Lutheran Church in Edgar. Erich served in the U.S. Army and worked as a machinist at Marathon Electric. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Lions Club. An active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Wausau, he was involved in the Dartball Team, Christ Care Bible Study, served on the Board of Elders and as an usher. Survivors include his wife, Alice Betzner of Wausau; daughter, Sandra (Doug) Fuchs of Faribault, Minn.; three grandchildren whom he cherished, Brent Fuchs of Faribault, Melissa (Ben) Ernst of St. Louis and Elizabeth (Charles) Thompson of Waconia, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Eva Betzner of Bonduel and Dorothy Betzner of Edgar; one half-sister, Lydia Hollinger of Wausau; very special friends, Char and Ron Barr of Wausau; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael; four brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Rev. Alice was the co-founder of Walters Buildings and was vice president of the company for 50 years. She was a long time member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in the town of Wayne. She was born in Sheboygan on June 2, 1916, a daughter of the late Ernst and Emma Guell Barteck. Harriet attended local schools in Sheboygan. On May 2, 1936, Harriet was united in marriage to Alden Kanz at Fountain Park United Methodist Church in Sheboygan. He preceded her in death in September, 2002. She was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed reading, singing, and spending time with her family. Harriet was a very loving mother to all of their children. MADISON - Peter A. Okray, age 67, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. Peter had endured a lengthy and valiant skirmish with lymphoma. He was born on June 22, 1941, to Ralph and Helene (Waterman) Okray. Peter graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1959 and continued his studies at UW-Madison, where he received his bachelor, master and doctorate degrees. He became engaged on Valentine' s Day, and was united in marriage to Catherine A. Cline on July 17, 1965. They made their home in Wausau, where he taught English and was an active participant in faculty governance, at the UW colleges, until his retirement in 1999. Peter was a scholar of life and the universe in an insatiable search for truth. In frequent contact with former students appreciative of his guidance, he wore his 'toughest professor' designation as a badge of honor. He specialized in British Literature with a particular focus on the life and writings of Charles Dickens. ! Peter held extremely high standards for himself, his family, and his students. A kind and passionate man, Peter will be missed by many people whose friendship and love he cherished. Peter is survived by his wife, Cathy of Madison; children, James of Madison; Elizabeth (Robert) Klingbile of Aniwa; brother, James (Bev Wilson) of Monona; sister, Emily (Ted) Vanke of Sharon Township, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. He graded all cheese for Figi's Inc. of Marshfield from April 1992 through October 1993. He worked as a dairy products inspector for the USDA from October 1993 through December 1994. Edith graduated from Antigo High School in 1930 and from Northland College in Ashland in 1935. Before her marriage to Francis J. Pichotta, she taught English at Elcho High School; after raising four sons, she returned to teaching, this time at Pewaukee Middle School, from which she retired in 1985. Edith lived in Waukesha most of her adult life; for the past two years, she resided at Applewood Senior Care in New Berlin, where she enjoyed playing bingo and watching the birds outside her window. Edith is survived by her sons, George (Susan) Pichotta of Janesville, Donald (Kathleen) Pichotta of Wauwatosa and Stephen (Beverly) Pichotta of Waukesha; grandchildren, Peter, Joseph, Heidi, Andrew, Jill, James, Laura, Donald Jr., Ashley, Jaclyn and Michael Pichotta; and great-grandchildren, Jack, Delaney, Ryan, Tessa and Tay Pichotta. Pichotta Stephen R. Pichotta, 56, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, May 23, 2006, at his home in Waukesha after a brief illness. He was born to Francis and Edith (nee Rasmussen) Pichotta on Dec. 6, 1949, and was the youngest of four boys. Steve graduated from Waukesha High School in 1968. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1973 and was stationed in Oklahoma and Alaska. Steve married Mary Schimmel in August 1975 and he had two children with her, Jaclyn and Michael, both of Waukesha. He married Beverly Zeigh in July 1990. Steve worked at Yaskawa-Magnetek in New Berlin for the past 20 years. Steve had many interests and hobbies. He loved deer hunting, fishing and golfing; in addition, he played for Rano's and Fracaro's pool leagues for 25 years. Steve enjoyed collecting beer signs, t-shirts and glasses, and took special pride in his yard as well as his cockatiels, Toby, Rudi and the late Tyler. Steve looked forward to deer season at his brother George's farm in Coon Valley and spending summers at Summit Lake fishing and taking leisurely drives looking for deer and visiting friends. He treasured sharing time with his children, often just watching a movie and having popcorn together. Until her death early this month, Steve visited his mother almost daily at Applewood Assisted Senior Care in New Berlin. He and his brother, Donald, spent many hours with her, talking about old times, playing cribbage and watching the birds at the feeders outside her window. Glyndon Stuff CHAMPAIGN - John Glyndon Stuff was born March 5, 1925, in Dixon, to Clifford Harland and Helen Cecelia Starner Stuff. He graduated from Highland Grade School in 1939, Polo Community High School in 1943, the University of Illinois in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture, and earned a master of science degree in extension education from the U of I College of Agriculture in 1973. As a youth, Glyndon was a member of Pine Creek Valley 4-H Club from 1937-1946, winning numerous county and state project awards and county and state outstanding awards. He was a member of the National 4-H Club Congress Delegation in 1944, as well as a National Scholarship winner, which was a university tuition paid scholarship. He was involved with the Future Farmers of America his entire life. He was a member of Polo CHS Chapter from 1939-1946, chapter president from 1942-1943, Section 1 vice president from 1943-1944, state president from 1944-1945 and national president from 1945-1946. While presiding national president, he awarded his brother, Gerald, with the American farmer degree in 1946. He received a state farmer degree in 1943 and American farmer degree in 1944. He was able to attend and participate in the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis in October 2006 to be honored with his fellow officers on the 60th anniversary of their terms of office. He pledged Farm House Fraternity at the U of I (1948) and served as fraternity president 1949-1950. Honoraries at the U of I include Star and Scroll (fraternity honor), Alpha Zeta (agriculture) and Gamma Sigma Delta (agriculture). >From 1950-1958, he was the managing director of the Will County Farm Bureau in Joliet, managing director of the Champaign County Farm Bureau in Champaign from 1959-1974 and director of training for the Illinois Farm Bureau in Bloomington from 1975-1983. In 1983, Glyndon and his wife created Mary's Cake 'N' Candy Cupboard with stores in Urbana and Decatur, which they owned and managed until their retirement in 2000. He married Mary Elizabeth Love on Dec. 20, 1952, at the First Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, N.C., and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 20, 2002, (being the fourth generation of Stuffs to celebrate their 50th anniversary). He was baptized at Pine Creek Christian Church in 1939 and was a longtime member of University Place Christian Church in Champaign until 1982. In 1982, he helped found the Disciples of Christ Community Church in Urbana, where he was a member and elder until his death. Survivors include his wife, Mary Love Stuff, and his five children: Marilyn Love Ruzic (husband David), Pesotum; John Glyndon Stuff Jr., Champaign; Elizabeth Jane Hopkins (husband John), Dixon; William Gerald Stuff (wife Nilda), Indianapolis; and Carol Helen Stuff, Denver. Survivors also include six grandchildren: Gavin Stephen Hyde, Plano; Stacia Marilyn Hyde Carlson (husband Justin), Elgin; Shelby Marilyn Hyde, Pesotum; Sean Michael Hopkins, Dixon; Mary Frances Alexandra Stuff, Indianapolis; and Kathryn Elizabeth Jane Stuff, Indianapolis. Glyndon passed away at 10:40 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2006, surrounded by his family. He was one of the kindest men you'd ever want to know, loved his family "more than they could know" and loved his Irish setter Peg and all the other family four-legged grandchildren. His family celebrates the fact their beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle is now at home with Jesus, but profoundly mourns this precious loss. A private family funeral will be held in Polo on Dec. 9, and a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. in Champaign on Dec. 23 at University Place Christian Church. Zastrow, 61, 2710 N. 25th St., Wausau, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009, under the loving care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at his home. He fought a courageous battle against cancer for the past 19 months. His struggle ended on the ninth anniversary of his dad's passing, within the exact hour. Garry lived his life in Wausau, the fourth oldest of nine children. He was born Nov. 6, 1947, in Wausau, son of Virginia (Tietz) Zastrow, Wausau, and the late Fred Zastrow. He attended Highland Grove School, Horace Mann Middle School and Wausau East High School. On Sept. 3, 1966, he married Janet Ziech at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wausau. She survives. For more than 35 years, Garry drove truck for G & B Produce, Schofield, and then drove truck for Roadready Transfer Service Inc., Wausau. During his life, Garry enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with family and friends, card playing, trips to the western United States, raising cattle and being a herdsman. He raised ginseng and especially enjoyed making hay. He also operated the family sawmill, but his dream operation would have been dairy farming. Garry was a humble, kind-hearted, hardworking kind of guy, willing to help anyone at any time. He needed to be busy doing something. His fragile health was so difficult for him to endure. In the nine years since his father's passing, Garry stopped to check on mom every day until his health prevented him from doing so. We will miss him so very much. Garry proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from which he was honorably discharged to return home and help on the farm when dad was injured. Survivors besides his wife, Janet Zastrow, Wausau, and his mother, Virginia Zastrow, Wausau, include his children, Scott Zastrow, Karen Zastrow and Steve Zastrow, all of Wausau; and his siblings, Linda (Richard) Schroeder, Donna (Bruce) Kufahl and Kathy (Gary) Wistrom, all of Wausau, Vicki (Larry Halpain) Deckert, Aniwa, Robin (Roger) Rygiewicz and Elroy (Sharon) Zastrow, all of Wausau, and Arlin (April) Zastrow, Aniwa.
