John W. Truesdale, 84, 530 Commercial St. Apt. 2, Seymour, Wis. passed away Wednesday morning, June 7, 2000, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Seymour. He was born Aug. 9, 1915 in Richland Center, Wis. On May 30, 1941, he was united in marriage to Joyce Tubbs in Seymour. John served in Army Counter-Intelligence in the Pacific Theater during World War II. John was a business education teacher at Freedom, Bonduel, and West De Pere High Schools. He retired in 1977 after which he and Joyce moved to Horseshoe Bend, Ark. where he was a member of the Horseshoe Bend Methodist Church. John was also a Shriner and a member of the Theodore Roosevelt Lodge of Green Bay. John recently moved back to Seymour due to ill health. Survivors include Joyce, his wife of 59 years a son, John David (Jean) Truesdale, Whitewater, Wis. a daughter, Judith (Ken) Karsen, Grand Rapids, Mich. two granddaughters and two great-grandsons. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, is assisting the family with arrangements. Elsie I. Gohr, 93, Oconto Falls, formerly of Milwaukee, died Sunday evening, June 11, 2000 at Sharpe Care, Ltd. She was born Sept. 1, 1906 in Brookside, to Albert and Amelia (Kersine) Gohr. As a young women she moved to Milwaukee where she lived most of her adult life, and worked as a housekeeper in private homes. She moved back to the area in 1995. While living in Milwaukee she was an active member of Luther Memorial Chapel of Shorewood and most recently was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents eight brothers, Otto, Albert, Emil, Walter, George, Edward, Arthur and Harry Gohr and two sisters, Lillian Gaertig and Hattie Gohr. Friends may call at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls after 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the services. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Her husband, Leonard Klett, two daughters, Rosetta Hartl and Irma Holmes, a sister, Magdolin Quick, and two brothers, Emil and Walter Fischer, preceded Elsie in death. The daughter of Albert and Louise Fischer, Elsie was born March 20, 1914, in Bonduel, Wis. She was employed by Wilson/Farmstead in Cedar Rapids for 32 years prior to retirement. Since retiring Elsie has enjoyed spending time fishing and playing bingo. Elsie was a go-getter whose eternal fearlessness and determination has motivated and inspired members of her family from generation to generation. Though she is gone, her fiery spirit will live on forever; she will be missed by all. He was a very active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Coleman, where he served as Vice President and Elder of the congregation. Powell June 7, 1925 - Dec. 24, 2003 FLAG Martin A. Powell of Waukesha died in an automobile accident Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, in Fond du Lac County at age 78. Martin was born June 7, 1925, in Kaukauna, a son of Myron and Mary (nee Robinson) Powell. He attended Chilton High School and entered the U.S. Navy at age 17 in Milwaukee. He first enlisted as an apprentice seaman Dec. 30, 1942. On Dec. 30, 1949, he married Lorraine Jacobson in Norwich, Conn. He worked his way from bottom up through the ranks and qualified for special duties such as instructor and chief torpedo man's mate (submarine service). His highest achievement was chief petty officer and he received medals and ribbons of the American Area Campaign, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Asian-Pacific Area Campaign. He retired from active duty in April 1965. He then enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve until his retirement in 1972. He proudly made a career of serving his country. His work ethic took him to several jobs. He most recently worked for KL Trust, which was Senator Kohl's Jefferson Building in Milwaukee. His title was building maintenance supervisor. Martin was a lifetime member of the Elk's Club, the Fleet Reserve and the U.S. Submarine Veterans. He also was an on-call blood donor for the American Red Cross. He loved woodworking, hunting, fishing, travel and had many skills. He was an engineer at heart. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lucille Balza, Agnes Martzahl, Ila Brehmer and Anna Ahrens; and two brothers, Robert and William Powell. Martin will be sadly missed by his children, Linda (the Rev. James) Lewis of Arcadia, Ind., Kristi (Peter) Powell-Grenfell of New York and Wendy (Gregory) Galbraith of Aniwa, and six grandchildren, Evan, Jessica, Nora Lorraine, Kerry, Sara and David Powell. He is also survived by his brothers, Herbert (Marie) Powell and Eugene (Muriel) Powell, both of Kaukauna, and his sisters-in-law, Doris Powell of Menomonee Falls and Viola Powell of Kaukauna. He is further survived by his brother-in-law, Leroy Balza of Kaukauna. The combined funeral service for Lorraine and Martin will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 424 Hyde Park Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. Mr. Brusky farmed in Hofa Park for 18 years before he moved to Pulaski where he drove for the Pulaski School District. He also served as Town Constable for the Village of Pulaski until 1958. John moved to Green Bay in 1961 where he worked at West Side Clinic until he retired. He was a member of St. Jude Parish, where he served as an usher. She was a member of the Shawano County Farm Bureau for over 28 years and served on the Board of Directors. Henrietta was Superintendent of Food and Nutrition at the Shawano County Fair and Membership Chairman. Henrietta received the Shawano County Fair Woman of the Year Award in 1999 and was active with the Fair Board ! for over 20 years. She is survived by one son, Mel Peters, Thomson, Ga. three sisters, Elfrieda (Lewis) Mehlhorn, Shawano Charlotte (Clarence) Mehlhorn, Phoenix, Ariz. Maryln (Calvin) Kirchenwitz, Sheboygan one brother, Charles (Ruth) Gast, Phoenix, Ariz. and one sister-in-law, Sylvia Gast, Shawano. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edmund and Hubert Gast. She married Klerus "Nick" Uelman Aug. 10, 1935 in Shawano. The couple owned and operated bars in Angelica and Bonduel. They moved to Bonduel in 1952. Nick preceded her in death Jan. 8, 1992. Dorothy liked African Violets and gardening. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bonduel. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy C. Leonard of Milwaukee and a son, Wayne K. Uelman of Green Bay Five grandchildren, Cindy, Jody, Mike, Jeff and Tim Seven Grandchildren one son-in-law, Bob Treptow of Athelstane a sister, Rachel (Bernie) Karcz, Shawano and three brothers, Clifford Krause, Victor (Audrey) Krause and Arnie (Annabelle) Krause, all of Shawano. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty (Treptow), a son-in-law, Dennis Leonard, two brothers, one sister and one half brother.
