He was born May 1, 1918, to Albert and Jenny Short. On Nov. 29, 1944, he was united in marriage to Frances Kleczewski at Hofa Park. John loved his wife and family, was devoted to his church and was passionate about farming. He was a lifetime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Navarino, serving many years as trustee and usher. He was a 50-year member of the Catholic Knights. John took great pride in farming his whole life and was a member of the NFO for many years. Survivors include his wife, Frances sons, Ken (Marge) Short, Gillett Don (Carol) Short, De Pere Steve (Carol) Short, Navarino Norbert (Mary) Short, Pulaski Randy (Jean) Short, Bonduel Jerome Short, Chantilly, Va. daughters, Shirley (Keith) Johnson, Pulaski Betty (Gene) Arendt, Green Bay Marie (Steve) Fischer, Cecil Nancy (Dan) Nolan, Bonduel 28 grandchildren a great-grandchild brothers, Frank (Theresa) Short, Appleton Mike (Mona) Short, Mills Center sisters, Anne Jarchow, Fullerton, Calif. Rose (Bob) Foley, Bakersfield, Calif. Kate Short, Lancaster, Calif. and Mary (Gordy) Larson, Green Bay. He is further survived by Frances' family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Jenny Short-Klarner stepfather, Ed Klarner a brother, Joe (Irene) Short a sister, Helen (Ed) Jach brothers-in-law, Gordon Larson and Karl Jarchow and a nephew, Clayton Short. Friends may call at MuehlBoettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a Parish Prayer Service at 8 p.m. to close the evening. Visitation will continue after 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Navarino, with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Paider and Sister Charlotte Rebbe officiating. Adelia K. Hilliker, 86, 150 S. Cecil St., Bonduel, died Thursday afternoon at her apartment. She was born June 20, 1913, in Farmville, Va., daughter of the late William and Lena (Kuehmichel) Brandt. On Oct. 20, 1939, she was united in marriage to Leon Hilliker who preceded her in death March 3, 1965. She graduated from Shawano High School in 1930, went to teachers' training for a year and taught in the Navarino area and Briarton School District for seven years. She has resided in Bonduel since 1987. Adelia was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bonduel and the Mission Circle of the church. She is survived by her children, Lee Hilliker, Bonduel Roland (Bonnie) Hilliker, Bonduel Jean (Leon) Drage, Neenah Gloria Stern, Bonduel four grandchildren, Steve Hilliker, Jeff Hilliker, Danielle Drage, Bonnie Rossi a great-grandchild, Bryce Hilliker four brothers, Walter Brandt, Indianapolis, Ind. Harvey (Millie) Brandt, Neenah Royal Brandt, Appleton James (Beatrice) Brandt, Bonduel a sister, Esther Oelhafen, Waupun. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon son-in-law, Charles Stern four brothers and two sisters. On June 18, 1937 he was united in marriage to the former Isla Strauss at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Bonduel. Mr. Wudtke graduated from Linotype School in Chicago and was employed for over 40 years at the Shawano Leader. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing dartball. He was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano where he served for many years as an usher and was a member of the Men's Club. Survivors include his wife, Isla Wudtke, town of Wescott, Shawano children, Martha Van Rooy, Appleton Karl (Hope) Wudtke, Richmond, Texas and Shawano grandchildren, Timothy (Tricia)Van Rooy, Appleton Brian Van Rooy, Mesa, Ariz. Victoria married Vernon Monroe March 29, 1935, in Niagara. The couple lived most of their married life in the Bonduel area. They farmed in the Town of Hartland until 1957 and moved to Bonduel in 1977. Victoria was Meal Site Manager for the Office of Aging for Bonduel and Cecil for many years. She was an active member of Zion United Methodist Church, Bonduel and Zion United Methodist Women. She was Chairperson and in charge of the Kitchen Committee for many years. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking for her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening and crafts. Vernon preceded her in death Sept. 10, 1995. Survivors include three sons, Chuck (Donna) Monroe, Appleton Fred Monroe, Green Bay and Steve (Roxie) Monroe, Bonduel three daughters, Patti (Jim) Herb, Green Bay Jan (Rick) Thompson, Green Bay and Nancy (Clem) Borowski, Cecil 16 grandchildren 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Dick a grandson, John great-grandson, Conner one sister, Laverna Bonnin and a daughter-in-law, Marsha. He was born in Pulaski, to Genevieve Zdziarski and the late Raymond Novitski on Oct. 10, 1942. He married Gloria Shappek at St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael, Penn., on June 7, 1969. Dick was a printer at an early age until 1994. He owned Landsmann Printing for 14 years. He was currently an employee of H.C. Miller as a Class A Scott Operator - a position he held for the last five years. Dick was active at St. Joseph Parish in Green Bay for many years, involved in the Athletic Club and Holy Name Society. He also was a Webelos leader and a committee member of St. Joseph's Boy Scout program for 18 years. He was recognized for his devotion and untiring contributions to Troop 1010. He enjoyed quiet hours fishing on Shawano Lake and sitting on his patio admiring his freshly moved lawn and watching the birds coming to the bird feeders. He loved the Packers. Dick was a member of se! veral bands playing old time Polish music as an accomplished trumpet player, namely The Alvin Styczynski Polka Band and other bands including, The Nu-Tymes, which was his and his brother's own band. In later years he loved listening and dancing to the Polish music. Mostly, Dick loved doing things with his family - his children were his pride and joy. He is survived by his wife, Gloria three children, John, Maria (fiance, Ron Smith of Bonduel), Andrew, all of Green Bay mother, Genevieve Novitski, Pulaski brother, Bob (Maxine) Novitski, Green Bay sister, Barbara (Alan) Patz, Green Bay one nephew, Paul (godchild) nieces, Susan, Sarah, Alison, Kathryn, Jacqueline (godchild) great-niece, Alexis also godchildren, Mary Lou Zdziarski, Ronald Novitski and Tina LaPlante mother-in-law, Mary Shappek and sister-in-law, Darlene Rupert, both of Pittsburgh, Penn. brother-in-law, Richard (Wilma) Shappek, Front Royal, Va. three aunts, Nathalie Wiza, Beulah and Regina Novitski one uncle, Casey (Marge) Zdziarski. Mrs. Lutz was born on August 19, 1902 in the Township of Utica, Winnebago County, the daughter of the late George and Emma (Bean) Williams. In early years, Mrs. Lutz was employed as a bookkeeper for several businesses in Clintonville and assisted with house and child care for families in the community for 15 years. Gene was born in Aniwa, Wis., to Cora and Earl Brunk. She married John Francis Menard on Sept. 15, 1949, in Elizabeth City, N.C. She graduated from Langlade County Normal School in Antigo, Wis., and the University of Wisconsin River Falls, River Falls, Wis. Gene was an educator for 46 years. She taught in several different states but the last 23 years of her career were spent in Minnesota School District #833 at Pullman and Crestview Elementary schools were she taught first grade. She was very proud of starting District #833's Project GO (Grandparents Organization) which brings senior citizens into the classroom to mentor young students. Gene's encouragement and kindness touched hundreds of students. Gene was an active member of the Washington County Historical Society where she helped organize many events that allowed her to share her passion of history. She and her husband John opened their home to many AFS (American Field Service) students from around the world. She worsh! iped and was an active member of Newport United Methodist Church for many years. Gene was passionate about many things but she loved being part of family activities, reading, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, history, map reading and travel. She and her family spent many wonderful seasons at ''Camp Croix'' in Osceola, Wis., where she and her husband John shared their love of fishing and exploring the St. Croix River in their canoe. Her quick wit and caring will be greatly missed by all that she loved and touched. Gene was preceded in death by her parents, Cora and Earl Brunk; the love of her life husband John in 1977; and granddaughter Christy. She is survived by her sons, John (Diane) of Forest Lake, Minn., Mark (Jean) Menard of Woodbury, Minn.; daughter Kora (John) of Cloquet, Minn.; grandchildren Andrea (Forest Lake), Lane (Minneapolis) and Jacob (Cloquet); brother Andy (Marie) Brunk (Eau Claire, Wis.); nephews Matt and David Brunk; niece Melinda Sachsenmaier; several cousins, great niece and nephews and many friends. SERVICE:A memorial service will be held in Newport United Methodist Church on Tuesday August 12, 2003, at 11:30 a.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 218-628-5200. Memorials are preferred to the Washington County Historical Society, Stillwater, Minn., or Minnesota National Guard Youth Camp. Her family would like to thank the staff at the Pines III where Gene lived for the past 3 years; Benedictine Center and Day Services Staff and Erica Stevens who provided both spiritual and loving care for Gene. Main St., Oconto Falls, died early Monday morning, June 5, 2000, at home with all of her family present, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 18, 1928, in the Town of Hayes to Hugo and Elsa (Free) Moede. On Dec. 16, 1950, she married Otto Gaertig in Suring. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Town of Morgan for 34 years. Gladys was also employed at Community Memorial Hospital for five years and later at the Falls Nursing Home, now Sharpe Care, Ltd. for many years in various capacities. She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Morgan and was active in the Women of the Church. Gladys also helped to care for many elderly friends and neighbors over the years and was a volunteer for Oconto County Home Respite Care. She was a very caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend and all around loving person. Survivors are two sons, Carl Gaertig (June Pearcy), Oconto Falls Glen Gaertig (Julie Thompson), Gillett three daughters, Ruby (James) Radtke, Pulaski Pearl Konitzer (Al Czechan), Gillett Crystal (Nick) Cortese, Chicago, Ill. 17 grandchildren 11 great-grandchildren two brothers, Richard (Carol) Moede, Bonduel John (Evon) Moede, Hayes three sisters, Diane (Art) Meisner, Cecil Mrs. Gloria Brickman, Appleton Sandra (Albert) Barfield, South Carolina one sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Moede, Suring one brother-in-law, Eugene (Mary) Hoppe, Oconto Falls a very special person in her life, Enith (George Jr.) Callahan and family, Waukesha. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Otto on Jan. 18, 1988 one granddaughter, Dawn two brothers, Willard and Carl Moede and one sister, Esther Hoppe. Harvey F. Gast was pronounced dead at the Shawano Medical Center. Lerena E. Gast died later. The Shawano County Sheriff's Department said the Gast vehicle stopped at the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway BE, then pulled into the path of a vehicle driven by Gerry Magsam, 27, of Cecil. Powell May 24, 1925 ; Dec. 24, 2003 ROSE Lorraine E. Powell of Waukesha died in an automobile accident Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, in Fond du Lac County at age 78. Lorraine was born May 24, 1925, in the town of Vernon, to Martin and Christine (nee Beilfuss) Jacobson. She grew up on a dairy farm in Big Bend. She was a member of Norway Lutheran Church growing up, and graduated from Mukwonago High School at age 16. She graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee, a member of the Nurse Cadet Corps. She met her husband, Martin, in Milwaukee, and they married in Norwich, Conn., on Dec. 30, 1949. The couple lived in a variety of places due to Martin's career in the Navy, and started their family of three daughters. When they settled in Waukesha, Lorraine continued her career in nursing at Waukesha Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Alumni Association of Deaconess School of Nursing. She was a member of the 25-year club at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Lorraine's life revolved around her grandchildren. She was a wonderful caregiver to many people. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marion Mehring; and three brothers, Harley, Goodwin and Chester Jacobson. She will be sadly missed by her children, Linda (the Rev. James) Lewis of Arcadia, Ind., Kristi (Peter) Powell-Grenfell of New York and Wendy (Gregory) Galbraith of Aniwa, and six grandchildren, Evan Powell, Jessica, Nora Lorraine, Kerry, Sara and David Powell. She is also survived by Sharyl (Craig) Tulogeski of Waukesha and Jake and Karen (Tulogeski), who were like a daughter and grandchildren to her. Lorraine is also survived by her four brothers, Martin (Leona) Jacobson of Big Bend, Norman Jacobson of Mundelein, Ill., Warren Jacobson of Big Bend and Orville (Joan) Jacobson of Waukesha; a sister-in-law, Catherine Jacobson of Milledgeville, Ill.; along with other relatives and friends. The combined funeral service for Lorraine and Martin will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 424 Hyde Park Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. James Wilch will be the officiant. Burial will be in the Norway Lutheran Church Cemetery in the town of Norway.
