Thomas HERSCHER - Earl E. Thomas, 78, of Herscher died Monday (July 21, 1997) in his residence. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Herscher, with Pastor Louis Knief and Vicor Penhallegon officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Schreffler Funeral Home Herscher Chapel and one hour before the service Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the Trinity Cemetery, Herscher. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Kankakee Valley or Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; three sons, Ron (Jan) Thomas, Kankakee; Bob (Tammy) Thomas, Pierceton, Ind.; and Jerry (Kathy) Thomas, Herscher; one sister, Rebecca Brady, Bloomington; two brothers, Cliff Thomas and Gene Thomas, all of Aniwa, Wis.; nine grandsons; one step-granddaughter; and one great-grandson. Also surviving is one sister-in-law, Ann Thomas, Aniwa, Wis. He was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Thomas and one sister, Toby Kiersey, both of Lexington. Mr. Thomas was born Dec. 12, 1918, in Glasgow, Ky., a son of Lee and Muriel Bertram Thomas. He married Dorothy Martins Thomas on Nov. 23, 1942, in Bloomington. He farmed in his early years before retiring from Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance. He was self-employed as a contractor, having built several churches in the Central Illinois area. He enjoyed fishing and sports and was actively involved in community service, including Lutheran Brotherhood branch. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Herscher, and involved in church activities. He also was involved in Meels on Wheels, the Herscher American Legion and Clifton VFW. Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from Feb. 21, 1941, to Oct. 3, 1945. He received numerous awards, including the American Defense Ribbon, the European-African-Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Silver Battle Star, three overseas service bars, one service stripe, a Good Conduct Medal and a Bronze Star. His campaigns/battles included: Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe. 'Monte' Bunge A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 5, 1999, in Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in Vancouver, Wash., for Marcel M. "Monte" Bunge, who died April 1 at age 94. Mr. Bunge was born Feb. 26, 1905, in Aniwa, Wis. He lived in the Hazel Dell area for more than 60 years. He served as principal and teacher for Hazel Dell Grade School for three years and later was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 1970. He was a member of St. James and later Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic churches. He married Margaret Johnson in 1929; she died in 1993. Survivors include his daughter, Jo Ann Findlay of Vancouver; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Private interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Ruth was born in Wabeno, Wis., on Dec. 12, 1925, the daughter of Herman and Maria (Ashbeck) Niermann. After high school Ruth attended St. Mary's School of Nursing, Green Bay and was a member of the graduating Class of 1947. She began her nursing career as a registered nurse at the Ovitz Hospital in Laona, Wis. On Sept. 24, 1949, she married Herbert R. Pintsch and together they operated "Pintsch's Store" in Townsend. Herbert preceded her in death Dec. 18, 1974, and their son, Richard and his family continued with the family business. Ruth married Clyde Dusing on June 21, 1978. Ruth was a faithful and active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Townsend, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid and Choir. She was an avid golfer and also enjoyed traveling and playing cards with her friends. She is survived by her husband, Clyde; daughter, Deborah "Debbie" Pintsch and Susan (Jeff) Koonce, both of Anchorage, Alaska; son, Richard (Vicki) Pintsch, Townsend; sisters, Margaret Dietrich, Antigo; Doris (Gene) Bown, Aniwa; Ann (Leonard) Slowey, Pt. She was a resident of Park View since her stroke in December of 1992. She was born in Aniwa, Wi on December 31, 1908, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Resch Zarda, and came to Oshkosh, as a young girl. Emma was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Emma was an accomplished seamstress, and was employed at OshKosh B'Gosh and Neubergers, and made her own clothes and items for the church fairs. She crocheted doilies always of many colors inspired, she said by the rainbow which God created. For many years she volunteered at Father Carr's Thanksgiving and Easter dinners. She is survived by one sister Eleanor Kloiber, of Oshkosh, and many nieces and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by two brothers Joseph and Charles, and by two sisters Mary Neubauer and Pauline Ratzburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 27, 1999, at 6:00 P.M. in Sacred Heart C! atholic Church with the Rev. Martin Carr officiating. Kielman on May 8, 1935, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bowler. She preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 1998. Roy worked as a woodsman, operated a dairy farm in the town of Almon, Shawano County and had been employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for a road construction company. After semiretiring he was employed by the former Wittenberg Block Plant for a number of years. Roy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Tigerton. He took great pride in his lawn, garden and flowers. Survivors include two sons, Robert Whitehouse, Heartland Health Care Center, Shawano; Gerald (Sue) Whitehouse, Green Bay; one daughter, Mary Ann (James) Martin, Wausau; eight grandchildren, John Whitehouse, Michael Whitehouse, Mary Gail Whitehouse, Lauren Whitehouse, Paula Block, Jeffrey (Patti) Block, Scott Block and Craig Block and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Amanda Block. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Whitehouse, and one sister, Edna Postler. She was preceded in death by her two sons-in-law, Vern Prelipp and Ray Wachholz; a grandson, Dean Prelipp; three sisters, Elsie Sanders, Estella Wehrman and Freida Koehler; and three brothers, Alvin, Oscar and Ben Koehler. Heck Richard L. Heck, 61, Bonduel, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed from this life to his eternal home Thursday, March 25, 1999. Richard was born March 2, 1938, to the late Lorenz and Virginia (Mahn) Heck. With the exception of the two years spent serving his country, he spent his entire life in Bonduel. He married Bette Stuewer on October 1, 1960, in Shawano. In 1978, they purchased Heck Hardware. Richard will be best remembered for his selfless giving and dedication to his customers. Dick was a faithful member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bonduel, for all of his life. Survivors include his wife, Bette; two children, Anthony Heck (special friend, Linda Hagen), Shawano; Teresa (Mark) Heckman, Green Bay; two grandchildren, Christina and Daniel Heckman; three sisters, Beverly (Bernie) Hookstead, Milton; Joyce Heck, St. Paul, Minn.; and Jackie Zuleger (special friend, Jerry Barber), Shawano; also very special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandra and Dick Dodge, Shawano; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Richard enjoyed gardening and helping others. The greatest joy in his life was his two grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband and father. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1966. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers, and the Shawano Golden Agers. Schroeder Karl H. Schroeder, 72, Pulcifer, died suddenly Monday afternoon, March 29, 1999. He was born June 12, 1926, in the Town of Morgan, to Henry and Olga (Marcheske) Schroeder. He was baptized on June 29, 1926, at St. John Lutheran Church in Morgan. As a young boy his family moved to the Town of Underhill and on July 28, 1940, Karl was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the Town of Gillett. On July 21, 1954, he married Ruth Holtz at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple lived in the Town of Green Valley for most of their married life where they owned and operated a farm. They retired to Pulcifer in 1992. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Karl enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, raising rabbits and continued his interest in farming. Survivors are his wife, Ruth; his children, Frank and Cheryl Schroeder, Cecil; Judy and Jay Scherbarth, David and Mary Schroeder, Robert and Ann Schroeder, all of Gillett; nine grandchildren, Keith, Kevin and Kurt Schroeder, Melissa, Timothy and Michelle Scherbarth, Tyler, Rebecca and Lindsey Schroeder; three brothers, Wilfred (Eleonora) Schroeder, Leonard Schroeder, all of Gillett; Raymond (Doris Ann) Schroeder, Bonduel; two sisters, Doris (Donald) Herms, Marion; Ruth (Lester) Leorhke, Oakfield; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; his dog, Punky; and cat, Charlie. Scott was employed as a compliance specialist with Wi Ag Ventures. He had served as chairman for the last number of years. On July 25, 1998, he married Kristine A. Bauer in Manitowoc, Wis. Scott was an avid sportsman and excelled in many of his activities. He was a hunter, fisherman, golfer and bowler. He especially enjoyed being at his cabin up north with his family and cabin crew of Si, Mike, Jim, Andy, Steve and his special dog Lizzy. Survivors include his wife, Kristine; parents, Leon and Immogene Bergsbaken, Bonduel, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Melissa and her husband, Neil; Samantha and her husband, Curt; one brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Sandy Bergsbaken, Shawano; one precious niece, Abby Bergsbaken; mother-in-law, Mildred Kowalski, Manitowoc, Wis.; brother-in-law, Michael Kowalski, Denver, Colo; aunts, uncles, along with other relatives and friends. (Hall) Yakel Bernice L. (Hall) Yakel, 91, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Woodland Village Nursing Home, Suring, where she had been a resident since Jan. 15, 1998. Born in Bonduel, Wis., on Dec. 21, 1907, she was one of five children of Charles and Augusta (Benz) Hall. Bernice was united in marriage to Leonard (Sam) Yakel, Dec. 9, 1926. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1997. They would have celebrated 71 years of marriage on Dec. 9, 1997. Bernice and her husband spent every day together at their work or fishing, hunting and working with Sams' bee business. She was superb cook who could cook venison or any game meat so that her guests thought it was beef. She never rested from cooking, canning, gardening, work and fishing, which she loved. The pastor of their church would stop by at lunch time, knowing that Bernice would find a few extra fish to toss into the pan. Sam and Bernice loved to go to South Dakota to hunt pheasants, staying with beloved friends of the area. Canada was also a! frequent fishing spot, they also had friends in the area. Bernice was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Suring, where she and Sam spent many hours painting, finishing woodwork and always arrived at church early every Sunday to greet all of their friends. Survivors to Bernice Yakel include one daughter, Joyce (William) Hewitt, Sheboygan; a son, Roger (Rosemary) Yakel, Green Bay; a daughter-in-law, Bernice Yakel, Slinger; eight grandchildren, Craig (Michelle) Yakel, Renee (William) Smits, Rae (Robert) Wetzel, Curt (Margaret) Yakel, Diane (Fran) Minor, Joelyn (Ken) Husslein, Cheri (David) Gruenke and Debi (Mark) Podrzay; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard (Sam); a son, Hollis in 1990; one great-granddaughter, Brenda Gruenke; three brothers; and one sister. Bernice, who Sam often called ``Blondie'', will be sadly missed by her family and many friends who loved her so much. She kept her sense of humor and gentle love for everyone, especially the staff at the nursing home until her death.
