    1. [WISHAWAN] BCA - A Walk in the Past 2009 - St. Paul's Bonduel
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ShawanoGenWebProject Surnames: Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.wisconsin.counties.shawano/17109/mb.ashx Message Board Post: 'A Walk in the Past' set to detail Bonduel's early days on Sunday By Nathan Falk, Leader Reporter The lives of a postmaster, teacher, pioneer settler and others will be portrayed when Bonduel Community Archives presents its sixth annual "A Walk in the Past" Sunday. This year's walk will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Bonduel. Portrayers will relate the life stories of 10 well-known persons from the Bonduel area. "Our board talked about people that might be interesting, and we figured out over the past few months how much information we could find on them, both from obituaries stored at the Archives, and talking to relatives," said coordinator Lynne Marohl. Featured this year will be people who lived from 1821 to 1963. One of the stories will be told by a descendant. Carl and Caroline Stern, two of the earliest pioneer settlers in the Bonduel area who owned the land that is now the center of the village of Bonduel, will be told by Althea Klosterman. The story of John Banser, a teacher at St. Paul's School from 1912-1950, will be told by one of his students, Audrey Wussow. The remainder of the life histories will be told by Bonduel area actors. Rev. Walter J. Plischke, pastor at St. Paul Church from 1921-1956, will be portrayed by Marvin Klosterman. Johann W. Runge, a farmer in the town of Hartland in the early 1900s who built the house that is now home to the Archives, will be portrayed by Greg Rank. Jeff Reep will portray Frank Samp, the well-known village blacksmith. Lance Pitt will portray Alwin W. Kallies, postmaster in Bonduel from 1926-1960. Marge Bleick will portray Emma Zernicke, Bonduel's first postmistress who served from 1909 to 1926. The story of John Froelich, an early business man who sold the first Pontiacs in 1926, will be told by Jeff Simon. Jeff Monroe will tell the story of Gustav Rueckert, a carpenter, miller and farmer in Bonduel and the town of Hartland, who built many houses and barns in the area. And Dan Forbes will portray Julius Thiede, an early farmer and cheesemaker in the southwest part of the town of Hartland. He was dating a girl who didn't want to date a farmer, so then he became a cheesemaker. Marohl said it's so interesting to learn more details about these people. "I think the finished product is neat," she said. "You don't just learn statistics, you learn about their stories. In one case, there's an unsolved murder of a brother, and in another family, there was one brother who was missing and assumed deceased. It happened that some Oneida Indians found him and he was raised by them. There are the kind of things not written in the obituaries." Pastor Timothy Shoup of St. Paul Lutheran Church will welcome all visitors and give a brief history of the church's beginnings. Marohl said the event has grown, and that they're always willing to help people find out more about area history. "We average about 150 attendees or more with both presentations," she said. "We get some questions at the end of each presentation, and we try to help them with the Archives." Presentations will be given at 1 and 3 p.m. In case of rain there will be one presentation at 2 p.m. in the St. Paul fellowship hall. Visitors are asked to bring lawn chairs if they wish to sit during the presentations, which run about an hour and a half. Admission is $5 per person for ages 14 and older or $10 per family with children under 14. St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery is at 240 E. Green Bay St., Bonduel. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will support the event with matching funds. Bonduel Community Archives, 108 S. First St., is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays, or by appointment.
