Nora Boldig (nee Miller) Nora was born April 1883 to Henry & Mary MILLER. the 1900 Federal Census - City of Shawano shows her mother Mary as a widow. Mary is head of household and has had 7 children with all 7 living in 1900. It shows she has been married for approx. 30 years. Mary was born in Wisconsin in Oct 1849 with both of Mary's parents having been born in Germany. Mary has 5 of her children still at home - all born in Wisconsin: George - Nov. 1875; Claude - Jan 1878; Ada - May 1880; Nora - April 1883; and Irwin - October 1887. The 1880 Federal Census for Henry & Mary MILLER in Grant Twp., Shawano County shows the following: Henry is 35 years old and born in Ohio - his parents were from Württemberg, Germany. Henry & Mary have the following children in 1880: Emma, age 8; Mina, age 6; George, age 4; Claude, age 2; and a little girl named ? born in 1880 - 1900 census shows her name as Ada. I do show the following in Shawano County: Death Record Details Last Name: Miller First Name: Henry Day: 26 Month: April Year: 1900 County: Shawano Reel: 122 Volume: 01 Page: 0263 Image: 1888 Index Vol: Sequence #: 260874 Nora's brother Claude Henry MILLER is listed with the WWI Draft Registration Index - Sept 12, 1918. Claude was born 3 January 1878 and lists his address as Shawano, Wisconsin. He is a Brakeman for the Northern Railway and his next of kin is Addie Miller - this is his wife. One of Nora's brothers. Irwin Henry MILLER is also listed with the WWI Draft Registration from Washington Twp, Shawano, Wisconsin. Irwin was born 18 October 1887 in Shawano, Wisconsin - he is a druggist (pharmacist) employed with John F. Gallagher in Shawano. He lists no next of kin and is single. He claims exemption from the Draft as he is a member of the W. N. G. - this was dated June 5, 1917. WNG could be Wisconsin National Guard. Entry found in familysearch.org lists Nora's marriage date and her parents as Henry G. MILLER and ? FREHLING. 1905 Wisconsin State Census shows Mary MILLER and her three sons living in the 2nd Ward in the city of Shawano. Mary is head of household and widowed and her sons George, Claude & Irwin are living with her. All three of the sons list their occupations as laborer, but Irwin states he works for a Paper Mill. 1910 Federal Census for Shawano City Ward 2 shows Mary F. MILLER living with her son Claude H. MILLER - Mary has had 8 children total with 7 living in 1910. Mary has "Own Income" and her son Claude is a bartender. 1920 Federal Census for Shawano Ward 2 lists Mary MILLER and her sons Irwin, the pharmacist, and George, the woodsmen.. both sons are single.. and Mary is now 70 and widowed. 1920 Federal Census for Shawano Ward 1 lists Claude & Addie MILLER - they have a son Faye who is 7 years old. 1930 Federal Census for Shawano - Union Street -- lists Claude & Addie MILLER and their 17 yr old son Faye. ======================================================= Familysearch.org lists Minnie M. MILLER marries King S. WEEMAN on Oct 9, 1895 in Shawano County. 1900 Federal census for King & Minnie (Miller) WEEMAN show they live in the city of Shawano and have been married for 4 years. Minnie was born October 1874 in Wisconsin (her father was born in Ohio/her mother in Wisconsin) - King was born Mar 1872 in Wisconsin as was his mother - h is father was born in Maine. King & Minnie have 1 child - Unnamed Son that was born Dec 1899. King is a Railroad Agent. 1910 Federal Census for King & Minnie WEEMAN lists them with 2 children: King & Mary - King Sr. works for the brewery. 1918 WWI Draft Registration for King WEEMAN: born in Shawano on 12/11/1899 - he was a student at the Univeristy in Madison. 1920 Federal Census for King S. & Minnie WEEMAN lists them residing in Shawano with their children: King H. (20 yr. son); Mary (11 yr.) and Allen (5 yr.) 1930 Federal Census for the city of Shawano (120 Division Street) shows King & Minnie WEEMAN and two of their children: Mary (22 yr. and single) and Allen (16 yr. and single) - King works as a sec'y or treasurer at a canning factory and they own their own home. 1963 Shawano City Directory lists the following: WEEMAN ALLAN J (LUCILLE) PRES SHAWANO CANNING CO 218 5 SAWYER® 3324® WEEMAN Harriet H (wid King H) 614 W 5th St® 3321A WEEMAN KING M (AUDREY) TREAS SHAWANO CANNING CO 624 W 5TH SP® 3637A CH: TIMOTHY 10, MARY ELLEN 6 >From Ancestry.com. Koehler Betty J. Koehler (Reimer), 75, of Little Kohler, Town of Fredonia, passed away on Sept. 5, 2009 at her home, across the street from where she was born in Little Kohler, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Little Kohler on Nov. 24, 1933 to Mabel Reimer. On Sept. 23, 1950 she married Frederick "Fritz" Koehler Jr. at St. Martin's Church in Fillmore. Betty and Fritz celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September 2000. During her 51 years of marriage to Fritz, they were partners in everything they did including running Little Kohler Welding, the Little Kohler tavern/restaurant and Lehn's Catering. Betty loved children and drove school bus for Johnson Bus Company for 44 years. She completed her 44th year in June of 2009 with perfect attendance and had every intention of returning this fall to drive children to school for her 45th year. Betty was a charter member of the Fredonia Lion/Lioness Club and served as their treasurer until her death. She was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Ladies Guild. Betty loved bowling, softball, horseshoes, playing sheepshead and bingo. Betty and Fritz sponsored numerous local softball, bowling and horseshoe team! s. Betty loved to cook and her favorite time of the year was Christmas when she could decorate cookies with her grandkids. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoying picnics and parties at the family pond. She is survived by her children Gerald (Barb) of Crivitz, Frederick "Fritz III" (Sue Plant) of Belgium, Charlene (Timothy) Landing of Fredonia, Dale (Kate) of Amery, and Bruce (Dawn Dieringer) of Random Lake. She is further survived by seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and numerous family and friends. Betty was a loving godmother to her granddaughter Nikisha. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years Fritz, her mother Mabel and granddaughter Kristen. Visitation will be at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fredonia on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. Services will be held on Friday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fredonia, with Pastor Robert Zick officiating. Krizan Lon J. Krizan, age 46, of the Town of Wescott, passed away on Monday morning, Sept. 7, 2009 at his home, following a lenghty illness. Lon was born on July 9, 1963 in Shawano a son of InaRae (Hill) Krizan and the late John J. Krizan Sr. He lived and farmed on the family homestead his entire life. Lon is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Shawano. He was a sports fanatic who especially enjoyed the Brewers and Packers. He loved to fish and when he was younger was an avid hunter. Survivors include: his daughter, Nicole Krizan of Shawano; his mother InaRae Krizan; one brother, John Jr. (Lois) Krizan; three nephews, Trevor, Devin and Nathan Krizan, all of Shawano; his special friend, and mother of his daughter, Sophia Miller; several aunts; uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, twin brothers Dan and Douglas Krizan and a special Aunt Josephine Krizan. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Father Len Evers will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. He was born on June 12, 1928, the son of the late Harry and Mabel (Mervyn) Boardman.Gordon graduated from Shawano High School in 1947. He married Anna Tabbert on August 20, 1955. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2007, after 52 years of marriage. Gordy was a truck driver for many years until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Menasha, WI. He was a veteran of the Army and was in the occupation of Japan in 1948 and also the Korean War in 1950-1951 Gordon was a lifetime member of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team.He was also a lifetime member of V. F.W. Post #2126 in Menasha WI. In his younger years he spent a lot of time playing baseball. He also accomplished his goal of 10 parachute jumps by the age of 65. Redman, Sr. Carl R. Redman, Sr., age 80, of the Town of Wescott, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009 at his home. Born on March 8, 1929 in Shawano, he was the son of the late Carl and Hattie (Schultz) Redman. On Sept. 16, 1950 he was united in marriage to Betty M. Brunner in Shawano. In 1952 he enlisted with the United States Marine Corps and served his country for two years during the Korean War. After service, Carl worked as a salesman for a paint supply company. He was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church and the Shawano Hunting and Fishing Club. In his spare time, Carl enjoyed trout fishing, woodworking, feeding the deer, and being in the outdoors. Carl is survived by: his daughter, Mary Redman and her husband Walter Gross of Stetsonville; his son, Carl Redman of Lone Rock; two grandchildren, Sam Redman, Rachael Redman; one brother, Al (Marilyn) Redman of Texas; and special neighbors, Fred and Marion Pape. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Betty on May 25, 2000; his parents; a brother; and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Ronald Raddatz officiating. John G. VanDer Horst Father John Van DerHorst, 77, Kaukauna, entered eternal life Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Kindred Hearts. He was born April 15, 1932, in Kaukauna, son of George and Helena (Ebben) Van DerHorst. He attended St. Lawrence Seminary, Mount Calvary and St. Francis Seminary, Milwaukee. He was ordained at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay on May 29, 1965, by Bishop Stanislaus V. Bona. Fr. Van DerHorst's first appointment was as assistant at Sacred Heart Parish, Shawano in 1965. He then served as associate pastor of St. Philip the Apostle Parish, Green Bay in 1968. He was appointed Pastor of St. Mary Parish, De Pere on June 15, 1977. He again served as associate pastor of St. Philip the Apostle Parish, Green Bay in 1979 and then of Ss. Peter & Paul Parish, Green Bay in 1982. Father retired on June 30, 2002. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Kaukauna and was a U. S. Army veteran. Fr. John was very interested in traveling and during his travels met the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II. He enjoyed the Packers, card playing, reading, bowling and spending time at the cottage. Father John is survived by his sister, Rosemary Verkuilen, Little Chute; a sister-in-law, Louise Van Der Horst, Kimberly and a brother-in-law, Jerome Nettekoven, Kaukauna; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Father was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law: Anna Mae (Harlan) Verhagen, Joan (Joe) Seif, Wilma (Harold) Arnoldussen Nettekoven, Theresa Van Der Horst and Helen (Melvin) Seif and Ted Verkuilen Jr.; a brother, Cyril Van Der Horst; a niece, Kathy Verkuilen; nephews: Greg Van Der Horst, Ron Verhagen, Joey and Dave Seif. Reception of the body by the Regional Vicar, Father Donald Zuleger, will take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Holy Cross Parish, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna. Visitation will continue to 7 p.m. when a prayer service will be held. Visitation will follow on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral liturgy. Viola, the seventh of nine children of Charles and Lydia (Schmeichel) Wussow, was born July 17, 1915, in the farm home of her parents located several miles south of Bonduel, Wis. Her younger sister, Clara Charles (Shawano, Wis.), is the only surviving sibling. After graduating from Shawano High School (1933) and obtaining a Teaching Certificate from Shawano Normal School (1934), she taught two years at Sohr's school, an eight grade country school, located east of Bonduel. Viola married Carl Grunwaldt on June 20, 1936. He passed away on Jan. 13, 1947, as a result of a farming accident. Following her husband's death, Viola sold the family farm in the Township of Cicero, Outagamie County, and returned to teaching to support her young family. She taught eight grades at North Seymour Elementary School, 7th and 8th grades at Seymour Elementary School and from 1960 to her retirement in 1977, at Appleton West and James Madison, Wilson, Roosevelt Junior High Schools, where she taught remedial reading. She was a 1951 graduate of Wisconsin State College-Oshkosh obtaining a BS in Upper Elementary Education and later took graduate level classes. Viola loved being with her immediate and extended family. She often took her young children to visit relatives living in various parts of the U.S. On numerous occasions she organized family gatherings at her home located on South Lawe Street, Appleton, and later at Heritage Wood Manor, where she moved to following her retirement. In a recent diary she wrote, "If I could spend a day exactly as I liked, I would choose to have my entire family with me. It would not matter what we did - just to see them and their reactions to each other would be perfect joy!" Throughout her life she was very active in the United Methodist Women and her churches. During her retirement years she often traveled to see her children and sewed hundreds of children's quilts to donate to those in need. Sons, Mark (1943) and David (2007), and granddaughter, Christine (2006), preceded her in death. Surviving are son, Joel and his wife, Noel, (Anchorage, Alaska) their three children, Peter (Rosey), Paul and Sarah; daughter, Jane and her husband, Robert K. Smith, (Bemidji, Minn.) their daughters, Heather (Dr. John Kilde) and Heidi; David's first wife, Diane Grunwaldt, (DePere, Wis.) and their three children, Constance, Cathleen and David Carl and son, David's second wife, Charlene (Raleigh, N.C.). Surviving great-grandchildren are Hawkin and Maizie, children of Paul; Andreas, son of Constance; Grace, daughter of Cathleen; and David, Leah and Thora, children of Heather. Besides many nieces and nephews, she is also survived by sister-in-law, Mrs. Reverend Hilmer (Betty) Grunwald, (Sequim, Wash). A service will be held at 12 Noon, Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 740 East College Avenue, Appleton, with internment at South Cicero Cemetery located five miles west of Seymour on County Highway G. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2007, after 52 years of marriage. Gordy was a truck driver for many years until his retirement in 1990. he was a member of the St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Menasha, Wis. He was a veteran of the Army and was in the occupation of Japan in 1948 and also the Korean War in 1950-1951. Gordon was a lifetime member of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. He was also a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #2126 in Menasha, Wis. In his younger years he spend a lot of time playing baseball. He also accomplished his goal of 10 parachute jumps by the age of 65. He is survived by his children, Susan (Dale) Pruess, Wauwatosa, Becky (Steve) Agen, Menasha, Mark (Lisa) Boardman, Neenah, and Craig Boardman, Tomahawk; ten grandchildren, Kimberly (Kristopher), Corey, Kyle, Kristen (Jon), Kayla (Kevin), Brandon, Brooke, Anna, Andy and Anthony. Alice, the daughter of the late David and Anna (Marquardt) Steinberg, was born in the Township of Seneca, Shawano County, on Oct. 15, 1917. On Sept. 30, 1936, she was united in marriage to Arthur Mehlberg at Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass. The couple enjoyed 53 years together until his death in 1989. Art and Alice were longtime residents of Caroline, maintaining a home there until 1991. In the 1960s, they set up a second home in Appleton, returning to Caroline upon Art's retirement in 1977. After Art's death, Alice returned to Appleton to be closer to her family. She was a longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Caroline, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid. She especially enjoyed listening to Brewers' games, cooking, baking and spending time with her family. Survivors include her son, Fay Mehlberg, and his wife, Nola, Appleton, and their family, Lyn; Tammy and her husband, Michael, and their daughters, Brianna and Marissa; and James and his wife, Catherine, and her children, Ashley and Melissa. Alice is further survived by her daughter, Barbara Maas, and her husband, Tom, Neenah, and their family, Sherry and her children, Haylie; Ryan; Jessica and her husband, Tyler, and their son, Brayden; Amy; Sarah and her husband, Shawn, and their daughters, Amber and Allison; and April and her children, Rilee and Tyler. In 1961 they moved to Marion where they lived the rest of their married life. Mr. Beyer preceded his wife in death on August 28, 1972. Her hobbies included fishing, bowling, ceramics, making afghans, sewing, crafts, playing cards and bingo.
