    1. WISE, HAYNES and others, Claiborne Parish, LA 1886-1887
    2. People listed in some records of Colquitt Baptist Church, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana Genealogical excerpts are from handwritten church records in bound ledger in possession of James Cortez Wise, Jr. , of Colquitt, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, May 1, 1999, by Dot Wise Wirth. These records follow records of State Line Church, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. Variations in handwriting and spelling caused some difficulty. J. N. WISE was clerk of State Line Church and then apparently treasurer(?) of Colquitt Baptist Church. "The Baptist Church at Colquitt met in conference and after sermon by the moderator H. T. B. conference met in order. …B. BRAS???, moderator; J. F. WISE, church clerk" Loose pages, by dates apparently for Baptist Church at Colquitt beginning abt 1886. By the fact that most names are entered only once, it may be that these are records of donations for and expenses of the construction of Colquitt Baptist Church, Claiborne Parish, LA. That church, unfortunately, had to be torn down only a few years ago due to extensive damage by a falling tree. A granite marker stands on the site where the church once stood. Dwindling membership, caused by the loss of population in the Colquitt area, has the Colquitt Baptist and Colquitt Methodist churches alternating Sunday services in the Colquitt Community Center (formerly the Colquitt Methodist Church). Names mentioned (all have associated monetary amounts from fifty cents and up). Some are obviously members making donations. Others are amounts paid to persons who may or may not be members, in many cases marked as construction expense for Church. Most notable of these is the following: Barrow V. LSNG (?) Lumber Lumber for church $118. 43 To Barrow G. (H?) GRAY A. M. JARRELL paid for matching Church Lumber $5. 64 And for provisions . 50 J. N.
