(1) Abraham Shotwell took the oath of allegiance at Elizabeth Town, New Jersey Feb 9, 1665 - died New York about 1680 Name of wife is not known; but his son (2) John Shotwell, was born about 1646 and died 1719 in Middlesex Co. N.J. leaving a will. He married Oct. 14, 1679 Elizabeth Burton, the dau. of John Burton who died in the Barbadoes. Their son (3) Abraham Shotwell, was born about 1688, and died 1757 in Middlesex Co., N. J. leaving a will. He married Dec. 5, 1712 Elizabeth Cowperthwaite - (see Cowperthwaite page 2. Their son (4) John Shotwell was born March 25, 1727 and died 1757/8 in Middlesex Co., N. J. leaving a will. He married before 1752 Anna (last name unknown). Their son (5) John Shotwell was born March 6, 1753 in Middlesex Co. N. J. He served in the American Revolution in the Morris Co. N.J. Militia (see supplemental papers in the D. A. R., of Nell Downing Norton (Mrs. Voris Rariden Norton), D.A.R. #96813.) He married in Morris Co. N.J., Sep. 17, 1773 Abigail Shipman (see page 3) and removed to Mayslick Kentucky Mason Co. in 1788. Their daughter (6) Mary (Polly) Shotwell, was born in Morris Co., N. J. Aug-4 1774 went to Mayslick Ky., Mason Co. with her parents where she married Jan. 20, 1799 John WISE, the son of Adam WISE. Tradition says the WISE family came from Virginia. She died in Mayslick Ky. Mason Co. Nov. 13 1823. Their son (7) Thomas Jefferson WISE, was born in Mayslick Ky. Jan. 19, 1806; died in Marion, Kansas Oct. 21 1875. He M. 1st in New London, Mo. Maria Jane Briggs 10/29/1828 and among others had Mary Jane WISE who M. George Campbell Jr. Hays, and had Sarah Campbell (Cammie) Hays who M. Dr. Thos. J. Downing and had Nell Downing, who M. Voris Rariden Norton. Maria Jane Briggs Wise died in Palmyra, Mo. on Dec. 17, 1834 and Thomas J. WISE M. 2nd a widow, Gabriella (Hall) Pogue, and they had: (8) Charles Washington WISE born Dec. 10 1840 in Macon Co., Missouri Who M. his cousin, Louisa Catherine Hall, and their eldest daughter was (9)- Gabriella WISE, who married William Joseph Groat. Adams -- Cowperthwaite Page 2. (1) Hugh Cowperthwaite was born in England in 1648, came with his wife Elizabeth, to Flushing, Long Island in 1674. He died May 20, 1730, was a Minister to the Society of Friends. Elizabeth (last name not known) died Dec. 15, 1697. Their son; (2) John Cowperthwaite, born Kentmore England probably; died in Burlington Co. N. J. in 1732 leaving a will. He married Nov. 29, 1690 Sarah Adams - see No. 3 below. Their daughter: (3) Elizabeth Cowperthwaite was born _____ and married Dec. 5 1712 Abraham (3) Shotwell. see page (1) No. 3 Adams (1) John Adams came from England to Plymouth, Mass., on the "Fortune" Nov. 9th, 1621. He married in 1623 a widow, Mrs. Ellen Newton who came on the "Ann" in Aug. 1623. (After-his death in 1633 she married 2nd Kenelm Winslow.) Their son (2) John Adams, was born in Plymouth, Mass. about 1631. He married 1st Jane James who died. He married 2nd Elizabeth and went from Mass. to Long Island, thence to New Jersey where he died in 1703 in Burlington County. He and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth had (3) Sarah Adams, born April 24, 1668 at Flushing, Long Island and married Nov. 29 1690 to John Cowperthwaite, No. 2 above.
