Al, Now you have struck a chord with me again when you mention Huntingotn County, IN. This is where my 3rd-g-grandfather, Joseph Britton Connett, lived for a number of years. I have no idea what brought him there, but he was there during Civil War time when he enlisted (the second time around). I am trying to figure out if or how the Connett family were related to the Wise family that lived in Grant County, IN (by the way, Huntington Co. was formed from Grant County.) I have a Joseph Connett who was married to a Mary Witty in 1826 in Fayette County, OH. This Joseph had a few children, one of which was Mahala Connett born 1848 in Indiana. I am not sure if this Mary Witty was her mother or not, but whoever her mother was, she left Joseph Connett and ran off with his partner. The story is that Joseph and his partner worked in the Assistant DA office in Grant? County, IN. This was between 1850 and 1860. Anyway, Mahala Connett showed up living with the family of Daniel WISE in 1860 Grant County, IN census and I am trying to figure out why her mother chose this family to leave her with. She had siblings, but I don't know where any of them went to. I am of the opinion that somehow the Wise family is related here, to either Joseph Connett or his wife, whomever she was. It might have been Mary Witty, but the 1850 census in Kosciusko County, IN had a Sarah Connett as head with Mahala and her siblings. Anything here strike any chords with you?
