The current Claiborne Parish, LA is right on the Arkansas border almost dead center between Texas and Mississippi. At one time, it was part of Natchitoches Parish when that parish consisted of the entire western half of North LA. At an earlier time, land deeds, etc. for Claiborne Parish were registered in Monroe, LA which is quite definitely NE LA. My ancestors are from so far north in Claiborne Parish that they once had Arkansas addresses. <<My Wise ancestors are originally descended from the Accomack County Virginia Wise's. Col John Wise, who emigrated to America in 1635, was the first. His descendants (my path at least) migrated first to adjoing Maryland and then to North Carolina, and eventually Onslow County, NC, and then to Barbour County, Alabama. I am a native of Barbour County.>> My family tried and failed (so far) to establish a connection to this same family. One of my father's first cousins got into the DAR on this line but there seems to be some scepticism about the connection. Since we haven't been able to tie him into anyone else either, this is still possible....???
