Hi Dot, Maybe you have already seen the book, but below is a scanned version of some pages I photocopied from "A History of Butts County, GA." I found this in searching for my ggggrandfather William H. Hancock. Would also like to get in touch with Dennis to discuss Wises in Tallapoosa County, AL. My gggrandmother, Sophia Hancock Bickerstaff, and her husband lived there briefly before her early death, and I have puzzled over whether this young couple was there because of her Wise/Hancock family connection or his Bickerstaffs, both of which came out of Butts County. Cecile Harrrell Gadsden, AL 642 HISTORY OF BUTTS COUNTY, GEORGIA WISE FAMILY The Wise family moved to Georgia from Virginia via the Carolinas before Butts was a county. Heads of families in the 1830 census of Butts County were Augustus, Barney, and Hugh, sons of Joel Wise and his wife Jane Stewart; Isaiah and Riley Wise, sons of Patton Wise and his wife Elizabeth Johnson, both of whom died in Jasper County leaving descendants there and in Butts County; and Jacob Wise. Joel, Jacob, and Patton were sons of Joseph Wise, a Revolutionary soldier who fought under Elijah Clark, and his wife Margaret Patton, whose father, Jacob Patton, also was a Revolutionary soldier.
