This James Wise in Wayne County might be one of the James listed in the abstracts above from the GenWeb Archives. Could he also be the James Wise of Johnston Co. posted? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------ MY FAMILY LINE: I need to know about Benjamin Wise who was living in Mecklenburg County at the 1790 census, born about 1765 - 1775. Need information on parents, siblings, tax and indenture records, any placenames or former locations, etc. Benjamin moved to Burke County in the 1790's, married Sarah Culbertson, had 3 sons and land also seems to have had daughters. Son Josiah G.was born c. 1795 , d. 1 Oct 1846. Son James born c. 1797. Son William C. (Culley) the youngest. James and Josiah on the 1840 census Yancy County. James also on the Yancy Co. 1860 and 1880. Josiah moved to Avery County in the 1820's where he owned land near the Linville River with brother James. In 1820's Josiah married Margaret (Peggy) Davis. Josiah was a Justice of Burke County Court of Pleas n 1831; brother William C. was a Justice in 1855. Josiah was a commissioner for the survey when Yancy County was formed from Buncombe and Burke Counties in 1833. Josiah is also listed as a schoolteacher in a part of Watauga County that is now Avery County. If anyone can supply any clues to Benjamin, please reply to: bmccay@aol.com
