John's ancestors as you are and I am finding the same problem. I have recently come to the conclusion there are at least two missing generations just prior to John Wise, s/o Thomas, that must be found before the tree makes sense. The information I have was taken from Devon land records and wills. The land records are valuable in determining who bought or owned what and when but give no useful dates as far as b.,d.,m. Wills usually give a close approximation of when a person died and occasionally list surviving children but that's about it. All of the birth and marriage dates shown in Wise Family summaries written by others have estimated dates which are grossly inaccurate and vary widely from writer to writer; however, they do give a general idea of the time frame. If you are still searching for these dates as I am, I suggest you try LDS records for Saint Andrews Church in Stoke Damerel Parish, Devonshire. St. Andrews was established ! in 1288 and has been functioning continuously until the present day. This is where I will turn next. I will send more information as it becomes available. Meanwhile, you can view what I have listed on ancestry.com under the user name launeyjp. If you have trouble accessing this, email me at [email protected] Good luck.
