This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: RBestrom7380 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wise/3687.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Your posting, "Wise, Leon McKinley" was posted to the Washington State message board on 8/31/2008. It was also gatewayed to the [email protected] Mailing list at: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.washington.unknown/5609/mb.ashx --Shortly after, someone moved it from the Washington State Message board to the surnames "Wise" message board. Because it first appeared on the Washington Board and gatewayed to the message board, I am posting this answer on both the Washington board AND the Wise surname board. Thus, the answer can go to any seeing it in the two original boards. Now then, I don't know why you posted your message to the Washington State board. If you suspect Leon had family in Washington State, you must identify more information in your postings. You have been looking for the family of Leon since 2003 or before. Your postings do not reflect what information you may have on the missing daughters. Post their names, date of birth/estimated date of birth, place of birth, mothers names, wives names of Leon, etc. The possibility that you find help from a researcher, such as me, is far greater than finding a family member. I will provide my research, then suggested research for you. You may have the below, most was not posted, thus, this gives researchers some background: The 1920 Census for South Divide, Kimball County, NE, enumerated 14-18 Feb. Isaac(?) W. Gibson, age 57, born in Iowa to both parents born Ethel M. 45 born in Ohio to both parents born in Pennsylvania Leon M. Wise, step-son, age 21, born in Nebraska to mother born in Ohio, father in North Carolina, farm laborer Chester, step-son, age 19, born in Nebraska Lloyd, step-son, age 19, born in Nebraska The 1910 Census for Ringgold, Dawson County, NE Alva B. Wise, born in Pennsylvania Urania A, 44, born in IL Henry C. Wise, Cousin, age 46, born in North Carolina to both parents born in NC, teamster at a house farm, married first time for 13 years Leon, cousin, age 11, born in Nebraska to father born in NC, mother in Nebraska. Chester, cousin, age 9, born in Nebraska Lloyd, cousin, age 8, born in Nebraska --So, it looks like Leon, Chester and Lloyd were sons of Henry C. Wise --Henry's spouse not shown --This shows Chester and Lloyd at different ages, so either a mistake by the enumerator, the person giving the information, or they were not twins. The 1930 Census for Laramie, Albany County, Wyoming Leon (transcribed as Laon) M. Wise, age 31, born in Nebraska to father born in North Carolina, mother in Nebraska, locomotive fireman for "steam railway?". Renting at $10.00 a month. Mildred Conner, shown as "roomer", age 20, born in Missouri to both parents born in Missouri, laundress at a laundry. In a March 2005 posting, you wrote: "Leon McKinley Wise, died 1968 in Florida." In an August 2003 posting, you wrote: "my mother Lois Madeline was born in Laramie, Wyoming on May 22, 1932. I am still looking for her half sisters from Leons second wife." --You need to identify the names of his wife and the other sisters, otherwise a researcher can only guess at who they may be. I found your family tree online: In a January 2006 posting, you wrote: "Lloyd and twin brother Chester were born May 22, 1901 in Lexington, Nebraska". In a 31 August 2008 posting to surname "Mardis", you wrote: "My great grandmother was Ethel Mardis. She was born in Ohio and died in Nebraska. She was married twice, Ethel Mardis Wise Gibson." --The 1880 Census for Coyote and Cozad, Dawson County, Nebraska: Ethel Mardis is 3, born in Ohio to both parents born in Pennsylvania, Joseph 48 and Jenny? 40. She has several siblings. You appear to have access to US Census, you may already have this, or not. ---I found a person having her in their family tree. It shows her birth 4 May 1876 in Jonesville, Ohio to Joseph Mardis (1823-1886) and Jane Woodside (1840 to 1908). It shows the above census reference. It shows her death in Kimball Co, NE on 24 January 1953. It shows Chester as a child. So, I'm "guessing" this person is in that relationship. This person has an email address of: [email protected] Contact this person. They may know, or know of someone that has or has had contact with the daughters of Leon. I found your family tree online. For Leon, it shows death 9 Sept 1968 in Punta Gordo, Florida. Your tree has his birth, the 1920 and 1930 census data, but nothing shown for his wife/wives, names of children, etc. --For Lloyd Wise, it shows birth and death in 1985 in Denver, CO. --For Chester, it shows death in Kimball, Nebraska, April 1982 --Henry Wise died in Faulkner, Arkansas on 9 Oct 1940. --Ethel Mae Mardis, born Ohio, married Henry, no death information. The Social Security Death Index: -Leon Wise, SSN 518-05-3490 issued in Idaho, born 9 August 1898, died Sep 1968, "Last Residence" Punta Gorda, Charlotte County, Florida. -Chester Wise, SSN 520-07-3995 issued in Wyoming, born 22 May 1901, died April 1982 "last residence" Kimball, Kimball Co, WY. -----The Social Security Death Index lists persons that have died whose deaths were reported to the Social Security Administration. The "last residence" is not necessarily where a person lived. It could be the address where the Death Benefit was sent, today about $255.00, to a spouse or other person that paid for burial, funeral home/Attorney/etc. It also could be just from a notification of their death. It is not necessarily where they lived, it "usually is; but it is NOT a exact address identifier. A death notice/certificate/etc may have been sent to the Social Security Administration identifying the person died. The "last benefit" is sometimes the location where the Death Benefit was sent, not a Social Security payment, or again, where the person lived. Suggestions: 1. Write to [email protected] This person may have information. 2. Obtain the obituary for Leon. It may list his daughters and where they lived, possibly married names. 3. Get his death certificate, see who was the contact for information. 4. If you know any information on his marriages, where or when, try to get the marriage certificates. 5. If you know the names of the other daughters, try to get their birth certificates, or post in those areas. Birth Certificates in some states are restricted to family. 6. If you know the names of the other daughters and where they lived, try to get marriage certificates. 7. If the marriage of Leon to the other wives were short and ended in a death, try to get the obit of the other wives. 8. FOREMOST: When you post an inquiry, identify all the pertinent information that you have. Ron Bestrom Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
