Brothers John, George, Jacob and Samuel and their parents Philip and Mary Wise all moved to Belmont County from York County, Pennsylvania between 1810 and 1816. This family originally arrived in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania in 1738 and has been traced back to 1720 in the Palatinate in Germany.
