Brigitte, Thank you for your reply. I believe I have run into that family in Washington County, Pennsylvania before, but I don't think they are related. My Wises (Weiss's) came from Oberlustadt, Pfalz in Germany, settled initially in Montgomery County (just outside Philadelphia), then to Chester County, and then York County in Pennsylvania, and then from there to Belmont County. The John in that family was my great-great grandfather. Darmstadt and Oberlustadt are not that close to each other in Germany. I'm guessing about 60 to 70 miles apart. I wrote a chapter in my family history book about the Wises and it is online at _http://www.neilelvick.com/chap_11.htm_ (http://www.neilelvick.com/chap_11.htm) Neil Elvick In a message dated 4/22/2007 8:41:33 P.M. Is my John perhaps a sibling of your George, Jacob and Samuel? I do not know his parents myself. He was b. bet 1718-1724 in Germany (above) and died in 1781 in Washington Co. PA. If there is a connection, I will be happy to share info. Brigitte E. Brothers John, George, Jacob and Samuel and their parents Philip and Mary Wise all moved to Belmont County from York County, Pennsylvania between 1810 and 1816. This family originally arrived in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania in 1738 and has been traced back to 1720 in the Palatinate in Germany.
