I am a descendant of Johannes 'Hans" Jacob Weiss and Catharina Salome Baumgarten. In going through my mothers genealogy papers (my mother was Eleanor Wise McEdwards and she died in 2011) I found some emails relating to a Benjamin Wise obituary (she apparently found the obit in the Lambton County Library) and a note about the fact that the obit proved (at least in her mind) that the Wise family came to Canada in 1826 and that Hans did have a military career. I am not sure if I can be of help to you, but I thought we should connect and compare notes!?
