My maternal grandmother was Gabriella Harriet WISE, who m. William Joseph GROAT. I am also retired (as is just about everyone here), and live near Pittsburgh, PA. My grandparents lived in Pittsburgh for awhile, from appx 1891 - 1909, and my mother was born here. The fact that I landed here more than 70 years after they left was purely coincidence. I have my WISE lineage traced to 17th century Germany, although I am not a bit confident about the documentation that far back in time. ________________________________ From: Billie Erin Walsh <[email protected]> To: WISE <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, March 13, 2009 11:20:59 AM Subject: [WISE] Greetings, Felicitations, and just plain HOWDY A short time back I noticed that the list was up for adoption. My Wise family goes back to Johann Georg Weiss in Lustadt Germany in 1720. The name was Anglicized to Wise in the 3rd generation in America. The trail from Germany leads to Philadelphia, then Montgomery County, PA, Chester County, PA, York County, PA, Belmont Co. Ohio, Gallia County, Ohio, Nelson County, North Dakota where I was born. Because the family was here quite early and there were large families back in the 1700's and early 1800's I am frequently running into distant relatives online. I have a family history online at _http://www.neilelvick.com/newdmsite/Book/chap_11.htm_ (http://www.neilelvick.com/newdmsite/Book/chap_11.htm) Neil In a message dated 3/13/2009 8:21:35 A.M. I don't know if this information is connected in any way but I will share it with you. I found a WISE during my family research, this is what I have: 1880 Mississippi Census John Wise / b abt. 1870 Virginia Mandy Wise / b abt. 1851 Mississippi 9 children - Penny, Rebecca, Billy, John, Lucien, Chas.H., Alex, Palestine (g-grandmother), Palestina I've concluded that Becky Morgan is the mother of Mandy Wise since she lived with the son Lucien.
