    3. You might say I'm "semi"-retired. What with my "honey-do list" and my own projects/hobbies. If I had to have everything done before I die I would live forever. At least I can now do things I want to do rather than the things the boss wants done. Can't say much for the pay though. Paydays aren't real regular. Best part of the whole thing is that Tracie has put up with me 24/7 for over a year and she isn't ready to kill me yet. Says she actually likes having me around all the time. 1. [WISE] WISE] Family Tale
    2. Becky Campbell
    3. My James Wise family, there is mass confusion there.. and personally I think he was found in the cabbage patch, dropped by aliens. But on a serious note here is what we have. James was born 11 June 1781 in South Carolina he died 14 October 1858 in Claiborne Parish Louisiana, he was married to Permelia Miller she was born 1796 place unknown and died 1863 in Claiborne Parish. They had 15 children for sure, and maybe 16 depending on which researcher you are talking with. Their first 8 children were born in South Carolina, then the family moved to Copiah County Mississippi where their 9th child was born along with the remainder of their children their last child being born in 1837. By September of 1840 they were settled in Claiborne Parish Louisiana. Four of their children married while in Mississippi but moved to Louisiana either with James and Permelia or shortly afterward None of us doing research on James and Permelia have been able to find out who his parents were. There is an Ambrose Wise that was in Horry County South Carolina that seems to be a good prospect since their 4th son was named Ambrose. The parents of Permelia are also in hiding, though I have no trouble believing that her parents were Joseph Miller and Ada Gilbert as both of those names were used in naming her children. There was a Jesse Wise that seems to have also traveled the same route approximately the same time as James and Permelia, none of us know how the two men are related, but DNA evidence on descendants of each man points to a close connection. My branch of the family comes from Ambrose Wise who married Mahanna O'Bannon. Ambrose being the 4th son and the 6th child of James and Permelia. Becky

    1. Re: [WISE] Some generalized information
    2. There was also an English Wise line for a Richard Wise, who came to Maryland (St. Mary's County) around 1694. He may have been related to the Virginia Wise's (does anyone know how). His descendants moved on to the Washington DC area, some to (West) Virginia (near Morgantown) and likely some went on to Kentucky and Missouri. Laurie Wise From: Billie Erin Walsh <[email protected]> To: WISE <[email protected]> Date: 03/17/2009 09:12 AM Subject: [WISE] Some generalized information Sent by: [email protected] As with anything generalized there will be numerous exceptions. However sometimes generalities can lead to something useful. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the following personally. It was sent to me back in 1998 by someone. I found it interesting enough to keep it for later reference. Enjoy. ****************************************************************** The WEISS' immigrated from Germany to Canada and eventually New York State and other Northeast states. They were Jewish. Some Anglicized their name, changing it to WISE, to avoid anti-semitism. When researching the WISE branch of the WEISS', you will frequently come across Old Testament names like Abraham, Isaac, Joel, Samuel, and David. This is a good indication you are in the WEISS family line. The WEIS family( later changed to WEIS, WIES, and WISE were German Catholics who immigrated to Pennsylvania. As far as I can tell, the WEISE's and WEISS' did not intermarry. This branch later migrated westward to Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, and the west. The WISE family were English Protestants and immigrated in the 1600's to Virginia, near Jamestown. A descendant, Henry Alexander WISE, was governor of Virginia and a general in The Confederacy. Descendants are almost entirely in the South, predominantly Virginia ( Wise VA, located in Wise County, was named after Henry WISE ), West Virginia ( where WISE is a very common name ), South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas ( where WISE is also a common name ). Wise is a fairly common name in England. So you have three distinct family lines with three different religions. Usually the religious affiliation will clarify which line one is researching , since there was less inter-faith marriage before the mid twentieth century. -- Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

In my branch of the James Wise from South Carolina, there was a cousin that did extensive work on the Wise line, then one day she came to a screeching halt, told her daughter that she did not need to go into any more researching. From that day forward she has refused to even discuss what she found that made her stop. 3. HI:  We too are from hi line of Wise's.  My recods show that "John was actually married to Catherie Elizabeth (Chapman) (1) Kinard (2) Rinehart, twice widowed.  Elizabeth was the daughter of Abraham and Anne Elizabeth CHAPMAN.  Her first husband Frederick KINARD (William Frederick) died young leaving her with small children.  She then married the widower, John RINEHART, who lived across the Salude River from John WISE.  Elizabeth was a strong Lutheran, while John Rinehart was a strong methodist, although this never caused any problems." (Sise-Wyse Families of S.,Carolina, revised ed. pg 55)   John's second wife was Catherine "Elisabeth" was not a KELLY nor had she been married to a kELLY previous to her marriege to JOHN.  This information listed as Elizabeth Betsy KELLY appears to be an error of information in some of the family files nd should be so noted for future researchers who may come upon this data.   Jan Wise Henderson --- On Sat, 3/14/09, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: [WISE] COL. 3. My grandfather, Isaac E.(Edmond) WISE , b. 23 July 1862, Claiborne Par., La, was son of Daniel WISE. I have conflicting information on Daniel WISE. I have been told Daniel was born 16 Feb 1818. He d. 6 Dec. 1865.when his son was age 3. Then Isaac's mother died when he was age 4. Isaac E. lived in Winn Parish, LA Daniel Wise came to Louisiana in? His name is on a list "The Old Home Guard" which was commanded by Duke D.H.Hays, of Arcadia Parish, Louisiana, now of Red River Parish. Daniel WISE was released as POW at Vicksburg, MS 4 July 1863. He md. Martha Ann WILDER, b. 31 Dec 1843;d. 6 Mar 1866, Claiborne Parish, LA She was dau. of Edmond W. WILDER and Elizabeth LINDER. Daniel's Death Certificate shows he was born in New York, but this information was furnished by the wife of Isaac. Another source says Daniel was born in PA. I have never located Daniel WISE on any census in Louisiana. I believe there is a connection with an Isaac Alden who is shown on the 1850 Census for Bienville Par., LA. Isaac Alden signed as witness on Daniel WISE and Martha Ann WILDER Marriage Certificate. Also Daniel named his son Isaac. I hope Daniel's date of birth will help with someones missing Daniel WISE. 1. Re: [WISE] Maryland, Kentucky and Ohio

    3. In Robinsons "History of Green Co. Ohio" page 31, Bath Twp. an enumeration of all white males over 21 was made. My Richard Wise was on the list. On page 399, a list of Greene Co. Pioneers from 1803-1840 listed Joseph Wise [born between 1810 and 1820 } Jacob Wise [born 1790-1800]. I lost them after that. I believe that they were sons or grandsons of my Richard Wise born about 1760 in St Marys Co. Md. Richard Wise had a son Thomas who died in 1867 in Shelby Co. Ohio. Thomas's will mentioned William, Joseph, John and Daniel receiving 1/4 of 1/13 each. Daniel born 1802 died in Shelby Co. Ohio . But who wereWilliam, Joseph, and John and Jacob???? Richard Wise born 1760 in Md. married Elizabeth Betsy Bodkin in Clark Co. Kentucky in 1799.Richrd died 1814 in Greene Co. Ohio but there was an Elizabeth Wise on the 1830 census of Greene Co. Bath Twp. 50-60 years of age who could have been Betsy Bodkin. Betsy was the daughter of James Bodkin Sr. and Delilah Hicklin. Can anyone help me figure out where William, Joseph, John nd Jacob went ???? 2. Nice to see all the WISE activity. Here is my annual try at finding my WISE family: George HUCKLEBERRY/HAGELBERGER married Rosannah/Rosanna/Rosina WISE supposedly in Maryland or Pennsylvania prior to 1770. Rosannah is thought to have been born in Hagerstown, MD, but her parents are unknown. The only possible clue is a 1782 Westmoreland County will for John WISE which names his wife Elizabeth and his children John, Durude/Dorude, Rosina and Elizabeth as his heirs. My Rosannah died in either Westermoreland County, PA or Jefferson County, KY and the HUCKLEBERRY family moved on to Indiana. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Rebel Kreklow

I see there are 155 of us on the list. My name is Billie Walsh. I'm 62 years old and {re}tired. I firmly believe that genealogy is about a lot more than just names and dates. Family stories are just as important. It's the stories that make our ancestors live again for us. I was a mechanic for a number of years and when good ol' Uncle Arthur got to me I made a career change into retail. Spent seventeen years in a Big Box Store. I thought it was fun [ for the most part ]. My foray into genealogy began when one of my daughters asked me, well basically, "Where do we come from?" At that point I didn't have an answer so I started digging to get her one.  It's been an interesting journey. Sometimes fun and some times frustrating. Every time I find one answer I get two more questions. *<]:oD As long as things don't get to far afield I see no problem with posts related to just about anything WISE. [ family stories, old family recipes, etc. ] For some that might not know, typing in ALL CAPS is allowed for surnames on genealogy lists and is preferred [ see above ]. [ In some other areas typing in all caps will get you blasted. It's considered shouting ] It helps those reading messages to pick out related family names quickly. It's not a hard and fast rule but I would ask that anyone posting please use all caps for surnames. I promise not to be a dictator and hard to get along with. I want to see sharing be fun. As for myself, I can definitely trace my WISE line back to Indiana/Ohio and tentatively back to Pennsylvania. I'll get around to posting something more later. Lets see if anyone reads down this far. 3. Hi Wise Families I posted this earlier and have been following the thread of Wise families here. Somehow there doesn't seem to be anyone with links to New York. The only ones of all the children mentioned here that I know remained in Yonkers were Thomas and William. My Grandfather, Thomas, and his wife died when my Mother was very young , so there were no family stories. As a teenager I was taken to Williams' funeral but never knew any of his family. My mother was brought up by her Mothers' side of the family. There must be some Irish Wise descended from the other four children but where are they??? Madelyn Francis Wise & wife Anastacia arrived NY 1860 from Ireland 1880 census-Eastchestertown sons-Thomas, James, Francis, John, William, Edward daughter-Anastacia . Some Family continued to live in Yonkers, NY ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    2. I'm checking in and extending my welcome to Bllie. I am one frustrated searcher. My great grandfather arrived from Hesse Darmstadt around 1852 with brothers, who he did not bother to keep in contact with. somewhere out there I have lots of cousins. I keep stumbling over you early Weis' who are from the same area and have his name, George Adam Weis. He ended up in Huntington, IN. I am looking for his siblings and parents. Any clues would be appreciated. Juanita Wise Santos **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! 1. Re: [WISE] JACOB H. WISE - Pennsylvania (Pa)

    3. No, I'm looking for origins of Jacob Wise, born 1802 to 1806 in Switzerland, married Joanna Susanna, different versions of her name, born 30 Apr 1809 in Germany; they married before 1835 and had all children allegedly born in the U.S. They lived in Highspire, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, by 1850. When old they lived with their children. They may have been Evangelical Christians. They had just one son, Jason, b 1848/1849, who dematerialized before he could have grown up. I know what happened to only two of the daughters; Sarah Elizabeth, b 1835, and Mary Ann, b 29 Sep 1843. Mary Ann married John Dehart and they lived in Highspire adn Steelton. Sarah Elizabeth married John Conklin and they had five sons born between 1866 and 1878; probably descendants survive but I have not located any. Jacob Weiss was a weaver; he wove rugs or carpets on a loom at the Highspire railway station while selling tickets there. But the Highspire railroad station does not survive and while stories must ahve been told of him at the time, I can find no report of this outside my own family. I've no knowledge of whether he brought any siblings or other family from Switzerland/ Germany, whichever place he lived before he came to America. (I do believe Switzerland is landlocked so he cannot possibly have sailed from there.) There are many ways two people from Switzerland and Germany could have met and married in that region, especially if they were Evangelical Christians. Have photos of Mary Weiss as an adult; she was very dark skinned. Some of her children looked Mediterranean.
