Spouse of Elizabeth Risinger, who secondly married her brother in law,Jacob Hoke, and thirdly, Turner Johnson. Peter Wise (1788-1832) is buried in the German Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery in Jeffersontown, Ky. The father of Peter Wise (1788-1832) is Peter Wise, Sr. And his wife Mary. Peter Wise, Sr. ( b. 1751-1760 and died circa 1832 in Harrison County, IN.). His wife was Mary/Polly...names used equally in probate records when her dower sold 1833 in Harrison Co., IN. Peter, Sr. First appear on the Jefferson County tax list in 1796 ( microfilm record). Both father and son are listed in the 1810 census record in Jefferson County, KY. Peter Wyse of Jefferson County, KY bought land in Harrison County, KT in 1815. (This would be Peter, Sr.) I am posting my findings on ancestry.com under family tree of Peter Wise...been getting it together this past month. My connection is trying to see how Elizabeth Wise( possible daughter of George Wise and unknown) fits into the family in Harrison County, IN. She married Lewis Johnson in Owen County, IN in 1834. She came to Owen Co, IN same time as George Wise and his (?second wife) Polly Birket/Burket (married 1818) came to Freedom, Franklin Township, Owen County, IN. Elizabeth Wise Johnson born April 1815/1816 based on her headstone, and census records, making her the daughter of his first wife, or a possible niece to George Wise. I also think that it is likely that Peter Wise (1788-1832) is the same Peter born to Peter Weiss and Anna Maria Meyerin, baptized 20 July 1788 in Manchester, Carroll Co, Maryland, but not sure...need more research. I've put over a hundred family photos on Ancestry for other family members to download. Back to your question - I may not be able to cite a source for you of the relationship between Joseph, Sherwood & James. I've been tracing my family lines since 1965, well before computers, when it was all by library research and written correspondence, so I may not have the source written down. However, I do have a file on the Will of James Wise but it is not available on Ancestry at this moment due to maintenance. I'm sure that that will show James' children. The Schmidts came to America on the Hope in 1733. They came from the community of Ittlingen, which is only about ten miles or so north of Eppingen, where the Huths originated. Anna Maria was the granddaughter of Henrich Schmidt and Anna Margaret Keimen. Their son, Johann Heinrich Schmidt, was born in 1726, while the family was still in Germany. He is the father of Anna Maria. They were neighbors of the Huths in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania and they may have lived close enough to each other in Germany to have also known each other there. Like the Huths, they were also members of the German Reformed congregation, New Goshenhoppen. Anna Maria's sister, Elizabeth, married Philip Wise's brother, Jacob, and her brother, Jacob, married Philip's sister, Elisabetha. So all told, three siblings from one family married three siblings from the other. Weiss (Wise): The surname was originally Weiss. It was Anglicized by Philip Wise in the third generation in America. The earliest record of this family is found in the German Reformed Church records of Lustadt (Oberlustadt), Germany. Lustadt is in the Palatinate about twenty miles southwest of Mannheim, and is possibly one of the towns that the Elector in Mannheim saw burning during the French invasion of 1685. The church records only go back to 1708 here and so they might have been destroyed during the French invasion of 1707. The records between 1708 and 1720 are badly damaged and are mostly unreadable. Johann Georg and Anna Catharina Weiss had six children baptized there between 1721 and 1736. They immigrated in 1738. Very likely the family was separated for the voyage across the Atlantic. Georg is recorded on the passenger list of the Davy. The Davy lost a total of 160 passengers and crew due to disease during the voyage. His oldest son, Christopher, is listed on the passenger list of the Friendship, which arrived in Philadelphia about one month before the Davy. Christopher was the only one old enough to be on the passenger list. (Only those males over age sixteen were listed). The Davy did not carry any children. 1738 was a devastating year for the immigrants. An epidemic had been started in the holding camp outside Rotterdam, where the immigrants were waiting their turn to get on the ships and there was an increased mortality in the camps and on the ships that departed for America all during that year. There are records in America for four of the Weiss children, Christopher, Erhard, Carl and Elizabeth. Two children who show up on the German records, Maria Magdalena and Catharina are not found and they are presumed to have died. There is a possibility of at least one additional son. There is family lore that I received from two totally different sources of a son, George, who was born at sea. There have been probate records found for Johann Georg Weiss for the year 1743. His son, our ancestor Erhard, married Susanna Huth probably about 1747, and the baptisms of their children are found in the New Goshenhoppen Reformed Church records in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The birth of their son Philip Weiss (Wise) in 1748 is recorded in those church records. Philip married Anna Maria Margareta Schmidt (Mary Smith) in 1776. They subsequently moved to Chester County, then to York County (both in Pennsylvania) and then on to Belmont County, Ohio. They are the parents of my great-great grandfather, John Wise. In a message dated 12/6/2009 2:06:57 P.M. US Mountain Standard Time, JuanitaWS@aol.com writes: A really nice Christmas gift would certainly a communication from some long lost relative of my great grandfather's, George Adam Weis /Wise. I know he had brothers and perhaps parents. They all came from Hesse Darmstadt in the 1850s. I've been waiting quite a while. My Brick Wall. --
