Looking for family information for Thomas Jennings WISE. He emigrated to New York just in time to get drafted for the American Civil War, and was maimed at Antietam. He subsequently received a veteran's land grant in Red Bank, NJ. He and his wife Esther Farrell are buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown, NJ. One other detail is that he supposedly converted to Catholicism, from either the Prebyterian or Irish Church, at St. Finbar's R.C. Church in the City of Cork in the mid to late 1850s. I have received a message from Karen at rootsweb that a new archiving system will be in place about Dec 1. Messages will be stored on a web based system, with an improved search engine. No specific instructions were given so I assume you will find the instructions at http://www.rootsweb.com/ I don't know anything more about the archives at this time. I know only that all messages to the list will be stored on a searchable website. On another subject, I have been considering closing this list to help keep SPAM from filling up our mailboxes. Now that we have been SPAMMED (yesterday, from jmj88), I have finally asked Karen to close our list. This only means that in order for someone to post a message on our list he/she will have to subscribe. I'm looking for information about the ancesters of Matthew WISE, born Nov. 23,1849 in Pennsylvania. He died in Nodaway County, Mo. of peritonitis Sept. 30,1881. Married Mary Ann Boyer??????????. They had at least one child, Louetta Christine WISE. In my grandmothers Bible there were obituaries for two men, David Earl and Franklin Elbert WISE. I don't know if or how they were related but suspect siblings of Louetta's.
