Alice, Good luck in your research. I lucked into the Gamshurst location through a post to the Baden-Wuerttemburg list. Turned out I had a distant "cousin" about 50 miles from me who had actually been to Gamshurst. So far I have not turned up any records of my ancestors being in PA, but it is very possible that your came from the same family. My ancestors who came from Gamshurst were: Johannes Nicholas WEIS, born in Gamshurst about 1798 and his wife, Anna Maria ALLGEYER, also born there same year. They brought 6 children, Stanislaus, Joachim, Nicholas, Joseph, Karl, and Cunigunda. The children were born from about 1818 through 1829 and the family immagrated in 1830. They came directly to Ohio. She had a son by the name of Erick Gunther Weiss B 05-11-1904 in Breslau, Germany who was later adopted by her father, Ernst Julius Weiss I believe the family was Lutheran. Is there anyone that can tell me how to go about finding out who the natural father of Erick Gunther Weiss was? As he was born out of wedlock, is this a closed case? FYI My Casper (sometimes shown as Jasper) WISE was b. c1801 in Prussia. I believe he and his brother Ferdinand came to MD first (about 1830) and then to Darke Co. OH. Casper appears in 1830 Baltimore, MD census, 1840 and 1850 census in Jackson, Darke Co. OH. I hope this helps other Casper researchers. Doubt if the Casper query with his birth c1870 is related however.
