Your's is an interesting question. I have been researching Wise family because my of Grandfather Joseph Albert Wise. The branch I have been researching First came to the North America to Philidelpha in 1733, settled in LeHigh County PA, (the name at this time was Wiess), moved to Trumbull Co. Ohio about 1800, (Near Youngstown), later moved to Hancock Co, Ohio (Findlay, OH). With the move the name changed from Wiess to Wise. My Great Grandfather Daniel Wise joined the Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War, met his wife in KY, Lived in KY, Owosso MI, and finally back in Hancock Co, Ohio. He had brothers which I have nothing on. They may have moved on to other states west or northwest. Your Wise would be of no close relation to me as Daniel had three sons with two having children and only female descendants having children. The Wise name is a common surname in the states of Pa, Ohio, Ind, MI etc. >From my research there appears to be a german branch that came to Pa, another branch that came into VA and NC and went west into KY, or southwest in to Ark. Hello, David-- My SC Wise family apparently is from Marion Co. James Wise [1781 SC-1858 LA] is the farthest back we know. It could be his dad was named Ambrose Wise. [One of James' sons was as well.] James Wise m Permelia Miller who was b 1780 SC and d 1845 LA. Permelia Miller Wise had a brother named John Walter Miller. He was b Oct 1807 in SC [what co. I don't know] and d Jan 1878 Wayne Co. MS. He married Samantha Anne Payne ca 1824 SC [no co. known]. Their desc. were in LA, AR, and TX as well. The Wises went to Copiah Co. MS then to Claiborne Parish LA. There were many marraiges with the LAMBRIGHT family with roots in SC and George Lambright m Dorcas Shuler possibly of Orangeburgh. With the pages of information, pictures, maps, deeds, wills, etc.' there will be near 300 pages. This information was obtained in different ways: by visiting many of my kin in their homes; by telephone; correspondence; visiting many cemeteries; visiting state archives in Montgomery, Alabama; Atlanta, Georgia; Columbia, South Carolina; Raleigh, North Carolina; genealogical departments of several libraries, and several county court houses. The book will be hard bound. I need to have some idea about how many books I should have printed. I have learned that printing a book is very expensive, so I do not want to print too many books, neither do I want to print too few. I am sending letters to more than 100 people, but there are many people whose addresses I do not know. The book has all the information that I could find about the descendants down to the present day, of DANIEL, HERREN, MCKINNEY AND LEVI, the four sons of JOSEPH WISE who came to Southeast Alabama in the early 1820s. If you would share this information with others who you think would be interested, I would be very grateful. The cost of the book will be $45 plus $3.95 for shipping. I would need to receive $25 now to retain a book for you. When you receive the book,, you would pay the remaining $20 plus $3.95, or if you prefer, you can send the entire amount, $48.95, when you let me know that you want me to have a book printed for you. Hello I am new to the list and was wondering if anyone has an Edward H. WISE. He married Marion McKay and had Mary D. Wise who was born January 29,1881 in New york City, NY. She died July 8, 1959 in Guilford, CT. She married Owen Norton of Guilford. I don't have any dates for Edward or his wife Marion. Appreciate any information. I did come across the death of Edward H. Wise Jr. March 9, 1898 in Guilford, CT. Died at 2 years and 2 months 24 days old. Born in Stony Creek, CT. However, mothers name was listed as Harriet.???? Thanks again.
