I think I see a problem here. I don't see John MILLER listed as a child in the email from Lynda Lyle. (I assume the four names following Joseph MILLER before Permelia are Joseph's children. I am looking for information, particularly on ancestors, about Thomas WISE, Sr. (b. 1726, d. 1795) who probably lived in Virginia or Maryland. I believe that he married Sarah LEWIS (b. 1730, d. 1800). They had several children, one of the last of whom was George WISE (b. 1773, d. 1799) who married Jane KING. George and Jane had a son, John WISE, who died in Monongalia Co., WV on April 18, 1892. Some of the children of John and Henrietta THOMAS moved on to Missouri; my own ancestors remained in West Virginia. I would be most appreciative of any information on any of these individuals.
I am lookingfor Charles Averil Wise from WV. Do you have any possibles? Amy

Saw a cousin this weekend and she told me she thought we had a mutual relative who died in St. Petersburg FL in 1947 (plus or minus a year). Funny thing was, the cousin's grandmother never let on that her mother was still alive! We suspect there is a mystery involved, perhaps she was Jewish and her name was actually Weiss (or something). Her first name may have been Elizabeth or Edythe. Does anyone have access to obits from St. Pete for those years? Thank you Pam the ideas are good, but who do I get hold of to get the below information. Do you, or anyone else out there have any addresses. The census that I found on the net, were of no help. I am new at this and can use all the help I can get. Harvey If they were in Oskaloosa in 1925, you should get a hold of the 1925 state census for Mahaska county, Oskaloosa. THat census has the names of the father and mother and the place parents married for each member of the household. It may help you get a line on ancestors. ALso have you gotten a death certificate from the state and/or obituaries for these people. Iowa generally kept really good records which is why I'm glad all of my great great and half of my 3rd great grandparents lived and died there. Hi SallyAnne...... No, my mother , Rosetta, is deceased. She was buried in Los Angeles, California. Indeed a coincidence, rather an unusual name to be shared. Thanks for your response.........Harvey SallyAnne Ellis wrote: > Is Rosetta still living? There is a Rosetta Wise in the Wise family plot in > Mansfield, Ohio but I don't know the date. >

Harvey, have you tried getting a death certificate for Casper or Olive Wise? Normally, they show the parents of the deceased person. THE HANDY BOOK FOR GENEALOGISTS shows that death records are complete in Iowa from 1905. In some instances they have them f rom 1880. That might be the easiest way. Also if they were born in the 1870's, you should be able to find them in the household with their parents in the 1880 Iowa census. Mary Louise
MaryLouise, Thank you, I haven't been able to find anything from census that are on the internet. I didn't know that death certificates showed parents. I did request help from the Oskaloosa Public Library and they were very helpful, but recommeded that I try the Keo-Mah Genealogical Society for further help. I just wrote them today. I also wrote to the local cementery a few weeks ago for a records search, but I haven't heard from them. I'll keep on trying, thanks again. Can anyone tell me about the Margaret Wise below? No info on her. >Is your Isaac the one that was born in 1802 in North Carolina, the son of William Davis and Margaret Wise.<
I found the following which may be of interest to some on our list. More details are available from: http://wvlc.wvnet.edu/history/medals.html LIST OF UNCLAIMED UNION CIVIL WAR MEDALS AT THE WEST VIRGINIA STATE ARCHIVES In order to claim an ancestor's medal, a claimant must submit his or her line of descent from the veteran along with documentation to support this line of descent. To establish line of descent, claimants must include copies of primary sources, including birth, death, marriage, will, deed, military, census, Bible records, etc. Old letters, diaries, marriage announcements, or obituaries may also prove helpful in verifying a descendant's claim. Please note that a family chart submitted without further documentation is not sufficient. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wise, Thomas S. ; N; 6th Reg Inf Vols Don Huling
