    1. Mary Lee Wise
    2. Marilyn Miners Phelps
    3. Hi Folks: I know I have an almost impossible task....We have been researching on and off for 28 years to find some link to the above Mary Lee Wise.. According to her, she was born July 18, 1869 in Missouri. Somehow she came to Lebanon, Ky area with or without her parents and was raised in that area, but at least for part of that time was raised by a family named Putnam....She was taken into the Catholic Church and sponsored by Ann Spalding when she was 18....No records are found at the church...We went years ago and they said that a fire had destroyed all their records. She was married to Green Moore Dutton at Lebanon Station, Ky on July 19, 1894 and subsequently moved to Russell Co., Ky. Green Moore Dutton ran logs up and down from the Cumberland River area from Tennessee to Lebanon and that is supposedly how they met. Now, we know the history after she married, but cannot find a father or mother for her.....Do ANY of you have any of your WISE family who emigrated to Kentucky (Marion Co.) and could possibly have died and this child was raised by these people, or do any of you have the Spaldings or Putnams as marrying into your family? We have come to the conclusion that she was probably illegitimant and they kept it quiet....Some of her daughters used to tease her about that fact and she used to get really mad. However, she insisted she was born in Missouri.... Marilyn Phelps ljpmap@indy.net

    3. I have the same problem. I have a picture of gr grandparents and no one knows a first name. It is not on the picture either. I know there was an Edmund and a John and Mary and Jerdon Hill, all from Kansas, and I know that there is a Gene Wise in Kansas now that looks enough like my son to be mistaken for him. I know they were miners and followed the mines. At one time were in Cowley Co. Kansas. If any of you have ancestors that came from North Carolina, I have a book called German speaking people west of the Catawba. Lots of Wises in it. Be glad to look for anyone that needs it. Some of those Wises moved on down to Missouri. 3. Sometime ago in the infancy of my genealogical work, I found a wedding announcement in the 21 Dec 1896 edition of the Coffeyville Journal (Coffeyville, Montgomery Co., KS) that mentioned Myrtle WISE. I jotted the reference down and I remember that it struck me because my Wises are from that area and I had no record of her. That was the ONLY reference I could find. If you'd like to read the article, I found it on page 1, col D and page 4, col D. I'm not sure its connected, but later, on 30 Dec 1896 (page 1), an article appeared regarding the marriage of the daughter of George WISE. Floyd and "Grandfather" WISE [WHY DO THEY DO THAT!] were in attendance. Martin WISE gave a gift. I don't have any record of any of these folk either, except for maybe Grandfather :-). If anyone knows anything about Myrtle, George, Floyd, Martin, or the ubiquitous "Grandfather", please drop me a line. 3. My Wises also came from Kansas. All I know is Gr father Jerdon Hill Wise married Lovinia Haney in Cowley County, Silverdale, Kansas. His people supposedly immigrated through Germany from Holland, and they followed the coal mines down into Wilburton and on down into Dawson, a suburb of Tulsa, Ok. Two of his sisters married into the Adamson family of Adamson coal mines, now Adamson Oil Co. All I am sure of past that is if I find a Wise family in the mid 1800's with child with the name Jerdon Hill, that is bound to be them. I have an old tintype picture of the parents who emmigrated, but no one knows their first names. bwise@oklahoma.net Bertha Wise
