There was a Patterson Wise b. 7-11-1778 living in the Clark Co. Ga. area. He died 1833 married to Polly Lacy. He was the son of Sherwood Wise and Sara Patton. Bonnie
Fred--I appreciate your response. I'm working on my desc. of James Wise of Marion Co. SC who eventually made it to Claiborne Par., LA. I'd seen that reference to Patton, probably misspelled Pattron as you surmise, and wondered who he was. Many years ago my older female relatives entered DAR on the assumption that James Wise was part of the well-documented family of Wises in Accomac Co. VA. But now that is thought to be very wrong! So I and 14 others by e-mail are doing James Wise research. Ann Harper Bonner in north LA gbonner@cbt.net

I think you are referring to Patton Wise. He died and left a will in Jasper Co, GA. There is some argument as to whether his father is John Wise or Joseph Wise. Maybe both of them had a Patton. There is a Patton Wise for sure in Jasper County at that time; I believe that there is a Patterson Wise in the area too. Patton I'm sure about. I've never come across a Pattron Wise, which must be a slip of the hand on a handwritten page or a typo if this is a copy. Patton Wise is one of the three sons of Joseph Wise, who settled in Jasper County early in the 1800s. Patton Wise, in at least one case, put an "esq" at the end of his name, and served on the inferior court of Jasper County. The Wises in Jasper and Butts Counties came from southern Virginia via the Carolinas. Joseph apparently served under Elijah Clark during the revolution for which he received land in Georgia. Does that help any? Am I unnecessarily amiss? Fred At 15:16 10/9/98, gbonner wrote: >In a reference to Ordinary Court Minutes, I found a reference to the will >of Pattron WISE. Does anyone one know of John Wise of southern New Jersey, mid-19th century? Apparently he made some long distance balloon flights prior to Civil War including flight from St. Louis MO to upstate NY. Am interested in more information both about him and Wise family of southern New Jersey (Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland Counties). John Polk Havre de Grace, MD

Hi Karon, While at the Historical Society in Zelienople I read two letters from Gertrude Ziegler to WISE researchers requesting information on the family of Michael WEISS & Maria Konig. She had come across this family while translating the St Paul church records and she had no information on them, which I assume means they weren't in her book on the Ziegler Family. This happens to be the family I am researching. What great luck!! The oldest son married Catherine Lambert, which is my line. If you have any leads to this family I would be eternally grateful. Ted
Tkrampf@aol.com wrote: > > Is anyone researching the WISE/WEISS/WEISZ families in Zelienople, PA? Hi Ted, I am -- sort of. I'm a WEISS/WISE descendant, my line having stayed in Bucks Co. until the late 19th C. The WEISS/WEISZ/WISE family of Butler Co. (Zelienople) moved there from the Bucks/Montgomery Co. area and are covered in varying detail in the following book: Ziegler, Gertrude Mohlin, ««I»The Ziegler Family and Related Families in Pennsylvania» (Zelienople, Pennsylvania: Charles Campbell Printing Company, 1978). I located the book at the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society last May, while in the area attending the NGS conference. I made copies of portions of it. I believe I tried to copy all portions pertaining to the descendants of Killian WEISS (15 Dec 1751-16 Feb 1840) and Catherine Zeigler LANDIS (4 Sep 1764-10 Jul 1859). [My dad's first cousin had shared several photocopies of pages from this book with another cousin (over 15 years ago) and had never furnished the bibiliographic information for it. The cousin subsequently died. So my goal at NGS was to identify the book and locate a complete copy. It was a successful conference! <s>] I'm still looking for the WEISS/WEISZ ancestors of Killian, whose father is said to be a George WEISS, Jr. If anyone on this list can help, I'd be very grateful! My ancestral chart is located on my Web site. URL given below in my signature line. If you or anyone else would like me to look in my photocopies of the Ziegler book, I'll be happy to. (I may be slow though, as I'm working on other things, too and I don't have the index (if there was one)). -- Karon ********************************************************************* * mailto:Karon_Bosze@compuserve.com (Genealogy, Technology, Humour) * * mailto:boszek@doubled.com (Newslists, Mailing Lists) * * Web Page: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/karon_bosze * *********************************************************************
