    2. I do not know whether this is of use or how common the name "Casper" was, but during the mid 1700 - late 1800's, there is a family of Wise's in the York/Adams County area of Pennsylvania which began with a "Casper" and the name repeats each generation that I observed. They were of German descent and were probably Catholic. If this is worth investigating, let me know and I will look for that material. Kevin D. Wise

Wise an E-mail, but she has not replied. Also, I am a "Barbour County" Wise, and not a "Coffee County" Wise. Apparently, this Mary Wise now lives in Dothan but is from Coffee County. I am expecting to get a reply from her soon; it has been only four or five days since I found out about her. In case you don't remember your Alabama geography, Barbour is on the border with Georgia. Eufaula (where I was born) is the largest city (about 12,000). Lake Eufaula was made by the Walter F. George Lock and Dam built near Abbeville. Tourism, fishing, fishing electronics, and American Builders (make panels etc. for all-steel buildings) are the principal products. Peanuts are the principal farm product, along with pulp. Due South of Barbour is Henry and Dale Counties. Dale borders Coffee. >From my parents home, it is about 50 miles to Enterprise, 25 miles to Ozark, 25 miles to Eufaula, and 45 miles to Dothan. Jeff

My theory is that our lines will meet in North Carolina. So, with that in mind, let me ask you to be on the watch for the parents of Ephraim (spelling?), Ezekiel, Richard, or Lemuel H. Wise. If we can make the connection to the Col. John Wise family, they have been traced to 1066 in England. If you're interested in working backwards and forwards on this, see www.espl.org, which is the Eastern Shore Public Library. See the "Mears collection". Unfortunately, this data stays with the Wises that stayed in Accomack County Virginia and not the ones that moved on. But we have two or three generations there, so there is only (PROBABLY) three or four missing generations. Good luck and keep in touch. Jeff Wise

    1. Listowner ANNOUNCEMENT: WISE surname board
    2. Jim Wise
    3. Listmembers, I have been approved by Rootsweb to start a WISE surname query board as a part of the GenConnect system. It is up and ready to accept your WISE queries. One nice thing about this board is that it will be part of the GenConnect system. When anyone uses the GenConnect global search utility all boards will be searched including all GenWeb (county, state and country) and surname boards (query, biographies, wills, obits, etc.). At this time I have only set up a query board but if there is enough interest I can set up boards where we can post wills, obits, etc. Feel free to go to this board and post your WISE query. PLEASE follow the instructions on the page. Give your query a good subject line. Remember you are trying to catch the eye of that person or persons who have the information you need. In the surname box list only the surnames you mentioned in the query (not all your surnames). My WISE board is at the following URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Wise If you want to go to the surname index to see what other surname boards are available in association with the GenConnect system go to: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/indx/FamAssoc.html If you want to do a global search for a surname there is a link on each GenConnect page. Just click on it and go. Jim Wise listowner - WISE mailing list

    3. In the Abstracts of the Wills of Onslow County, Thomas Wise's will (30 March 1807 - June 1807) mentions wife Mary: sons Matthew, Selby H., Thomas and Ezekuel; daughters Hannah Bell, Elizabeth Wise, Sarah Tanner. Executors were wife Mary Wise and son Selby H. Elizabeth couldn't have been Thomas' daughter, but could easily be the daughter of one of his sons. This line of Wises often named children after siblings. If you do find this to be the case, please let me know. We may be distantly related. I'm currently researching this line. I have a poor quality photocopy of Thomas' will, if you need it.
